Someone asked yesterday if we could do this again-

The stock flywheel is a dual-mass unit that weighs 31lb and often shudders when cold.

The TRD unit is a single-piece ('normal') flywheel that weighs 15lb.

The pros/cons have been discussed elsewhere at length, but basically the car is quicker in first and second, takes hard launches in its stride, 'rings' when using the starter, and alters the pitch of the 3000rpm rumble.

TRD retail is around $2000, less than replacing the stock unit.

Group buy should be around $1500, I will have to ask this week...

You have to be a VIP to participate. :P

Not that I know of-

I think the last time we did this the guy in Wgtn who bought one paid an extra $50 for a courier to get it down there, then organised his own fitting.

It must be time for you guys to talk to Toyota down there and see if they will match the Auckland discounts.

I've had quite a few deals with Rutherford & Bond for the Aussies, so I'd start there if I were you.

cheers

Ok, lets aim for when??

Will we all have money by the end of March??

6spd is also in, so we need a couple more to get 5.

I'm not sure what the delay from order to delivery is. They might have 5 in NZ already.

End of March should be fine for me.

I need to squeeze in a full service before then but should have just enough rattling around in the piggy bank.

Sim are you sure you don't want to have the service done at the same time as fitting the clutch?? Might make things a bit cheaper for you.

Yeah, that would be the way to go.

I had a feeling I might have needed it serviced soon as a requirement of my mechanical warranty, but that doesn't seem to be the case now that I've checked.

Cheers

So, how drivable is this setup for example in Auckland morning traffic?

The 'tezza is my everyday ride and I do spend a lot of time driving (parked?) in rush hour. It occured to me this morning that I tend to ride the clutch a lot, the Greville Road on-ramp being the main culprit.

Thoughts?

Sim, I drive everyday in the Auckland Traffic, Greville Road onramp being my favourite :P , only for it to get worse all the way into town (uni)

If you would like, we can organise a time for you to take mine for a drive some time.

I feel its still very drivable in traffic once you get used to it :)

That would be great if we could arrange that.

Cheers.

Just drop me a PM and we can organise a day and time.

Its the Phantom '105kph' beep thank you very much haha.
It leaves me to think what is up with my car, no one else seems to have this beep, or came stock with a TRD Flywheel... Maybe mine was some test/demo car or something :'(

I'd be keen, but am lacking the $$$ at the moment :( maybe towards the end of the year.

Oh and nick, if you wouldn't mind, I'm still keen for you to take my car for a spin and vice versa to compare clutches and to get your opinion on my clutch/gearbox.

Well, I took Nick's Altezza for a test drive this afternoon (thanks again Nick) to check out the TRD clutch/flywheel setup and it feels totally different to stock - not surprisingly.

Much firmer, less pedal travel and a whole lot quicker to engage. As Nick suggests it takes a little getting used to but it gives the car a totally different feel while still being drivable.

My stock clutch just felt wrong on the drive home! Too much play and way too spongey in comparison.

That's pretty much cleared up any doubts I might have had regarding getting it installed.

Oh, almost forgot... Nick's Altezza BEEPS when it hits 105kph! :woot: It's true, I heard it with my own ears! :o
