From what I remember of living in Aussie in the 1970s, a car only gets put through a roadworty test when it is sold.

In NZ they get a warrant of Fitness every 12months until 5 years old, then every six months.

So in Aussie you could modify your car, drive it for a few years, then remove the mods to get a roadworthy to sell it.

Is that what happens??

I assume I will have to get Greeneyes roadworthied to get it on the road over there. However it seems pesonal imports dont go through the full engineering bullshit until they go to be sold on.

Any ideas?? Does it vary from State to State??

In QLD at least, you have to get a Safety Certificate before you put the car up for sale and it must be displayed while you're trying to sell it. It's valid for 2 months or 2000 kms if I remember.

Mine cost me about $60 before I came back to NZ last year. I don't believe it was any more thorough than a standard WOF here.

Scoope is spot on for QLD...

Only when sold do you need a safety certificate, not sure how it is in other states.

NSW you need a pink slip (roadworthy) every time you go for registration (yearly)unless you car is under 3years old

If your car has been unregistered you need to get a blue slip (go over the pits)

If you change engines or fit turbos, superchargers bigger than 1 inch wheels you need a engineers certificate and your car has to go over the pits and your rego papers state that your car is modified and refers to the engineers report number which you must have in the car at all times.
