Toyota and Subaru are apparently planning a joint Entry-Level Sports Car to target young European/Asian drivers scheduled to be released 2009/2010.

Has Toyota got it's mojo back and decided to create the next generation tofu delivery car?

Subaru engine... Yuk!

So what they need is an MX5 in a hatch body. I'm surprised Toyota can't manage that themselves. I suppose all their 4WDs are east-west, run-ons from the 4WD Corolla they sold here in Aussie in the 1980s. ...and the only RWD would be the Altezza with an iron block...

2million yen is about $Au20,000, brand new!! That leaves at least $10k for replacement engines.

Looks like a Peugeot 207 from the from and a pregnant mid 90's Mitsi Mirage from the back, yukky.

$20k isn't a bad price though if it goes and performs as well as they reckon it will.

A boxer in a toyota just isnt right.
Surely they could just use the 1.8L corolla motor or something similar and spin it 90degrees.

RWD or AWD would make a good daily driver if it was for 20k.
1.5 boxer would suck, but atleast it'd be cheap on fuel and rego... although i hope toyota don't do a subaru interior, most likely at that price ew! cheap plastics!

i think i boxer in a toyota is a wicked idea. it will be the toughest sounding toyota on the road once released with a proper brand-name aftermarket exhaust thrown on it. :D great price for a brand newy! hell i'd buy one!

Aren't we forgetting that the primary reason for going with a boxer layout is for handling?

I think it sounds like a brilliant idea. Toyota need something to reconnect them with the enthusiast/youth market, and front engined/front wheel drive cars are simply not enough. The continued popularity of the AE86 should be enough to show them what works.
