Went to Nelson today because I was bored + crashed into a Subaru Legacy Wagon in roadworks on a poorly marked roundabout/intersection thingy by the KFC at Tahunanui Beach. I was doing approximately 30km/h.

Looks really bad but wasn't even enough to set off the airbags. In addition to what you can see, both the aircon and the water radiators have a rather distinct curve to them now, think they'll have to be replaced.

Damage includes:
- Bonnet
- Both headlights
- Bumper
- Grille
- Aluminium bumper support
- and all the associated bracketry behind all this stuff

The damage has been limited to the very front though, the front guards are still straight.

The car was in good enough condition to make it back to Blenheim but I won't be driving it again except to have it repaired. Yay for insurance!!! I'll let you all know how much it turns out to be and how much I have to pay.

Bugger!!

Ouch! At least you're ok mate. 30km/h hit is better than 80km/h hit anyday

Reckon. I'm just happy the airbags didn't deploy, I would've hated to drive an hour back to Blenheim with that thing flopping all over my lap... ;-)

As it is, the damage is very confined so that "should" make it easier and quicker to repair. Wish me luck...

Dropped it off for assessment today. The approved repairer for AA Insurance down here just happens to be the Blenheim Toyota so I'll be able to do a writeup afterwards too.

They're holding onto it for a wee while because it's going to require dismantling to work out the real extent of the damage. The guy who drove me home reckoned in the region of $5-6k though, ouch!!

On the upside, IF I'm found at fault my excess is only $300 :-)

I'm gonna have a chat and see whether some tasteful upgrades can be made at the same time, such as a nice new Legana bumper...

Sorry to hear about your accident, doesn't look like anything majorly structural which is a relief.

Have you made a move to the Mainland or just taking a break?

I've been posted to Ground Training Wing for Advanced Trade Training, basically this is the last step in my "apprenticeship".

The course lasts for 6 mths, after which I may get posted back to Auckland (seems likely) or to Ohakea, near Palmerston North.

Wish me luck ;-)

Talked to the panelbeater last night, parts are already enroute from Japan. At this stage I'm unsure as to which bumper has been ordered.

I didn't get to him in time to ask about the JDM headlights and the Mesh Grill but as long as the car comes back in better nick that when it went to him I'll be happy :-)

Oh and more items to add to the damaged list: 2 bent chassis rails :-o

Should have the car back in 2 weeks time, all going according to plan.

Be careful out there guys.

Hey Jeremy, sorry to read about the accident. Between the bike crash and this one you've not had a good year!!

So what are you doing for wheels in the meantime? And does it break traction in third?? :ph43r:
Current ride: 2015 Hyundai Veloster Turbo
