After reading a thread in the UK Lexus Owners Club forums, i found many of the 'lexus' drivers over there refuse to believe that the is and altezza are related.

I want to stir the pot and tell them they drove an altezza.... but i didn't, and it made me wander what stand point we all take over this side.

Do you drive a 'lexus' or an 'altezza'

discuss.

Altezza! I wanted some performance & I couldn't afford the luxury leather seats option!

AFAIK they come out of the same factories & you could have optioned your Altezza to the same specs as an export Lexus but still have the 3SGE.

The Poms probably still believe there is a difference between their Rover and a Honda... :P

It's the same car with different badging, different interior package and higher suspension. Just looking at the chassis numbers will confirm that, not to mention all the parts that are interchangeable between models...

Well the AS200L is identical to the IS200s.

Same engine, same suspension, same leather interior package etc, just badged Altezza still.
Pretty much as well as the RS200L.

Isn't annoying when people say 'Oh is that Lexus yours?', its an Altezza dammit!!! LOL

hahaha, my friend drives an IS300 here in AKL and we often call it an altezza just for fun . when he complains we turn it around and call him a rich asian boy with a lexus

but overall I'd prefer the RS200 over the IS200, and probably the Lexus only if it were the IS300.... I guess its the only "altezza" that isnt really the same as the altezzas

I drive an IS200 like an Altezza, but thats probably just because the vehicle cost a tad less than 1/2 of the retail price when I got it. ps Black200 you have inspired me to think of doing the supra brake upgrade. I spoke to a guy from supraforums on the weekend and he said they were often doing gb on the 2 & 4 pots.

Holden Astra SRI Turbo.

Old car was a Altezza, Badged and registered as a Lexus IS200 Compressor??

The thing that always got me was that the car was a IS200/300 colour that was not available on the Altezza..

Mine had always been an Altezza. Some mates thought it was a Benz or something, and they named my car Albenza hahah

When I first got the car back in 2002, my friends would refer it to a Lexus. Then one time I was parked outside of Foodtown, a man walked over and asked me what car make it was. I said it was a Toyota (didn't bother with explaining Altezza because he would have no clue anyway). After that day I realised that there were no Toyota badging at all on the car, and the Yamaha logo on the engine cover is even bigger then any Toyota prints in the engine bay, pretty cool :)!

Agreed.

And as mentioned, it has not Toyota badging from the factory, bespoke chassis and gauges that are not shared by any other model, and have not been continued with the new model either. And a unique version of the 3SGE block in the RS200 (and 1GFE block in the AS200 if you want to be pedantic). The AS300's motor is shared by the Mk4 Supra, probably the only real commonality with another model in the Toyota range.

So, i say embrace the fact that you have an Altezza, for not only is it born that way from the factory, it highlights the uniqueness of the car!

Let's Altezza!
