Put mine in last night, but havent had a chance to take it for a decent fang. will keep an ear out for this rattle that people are experiencing.

I had to mod the little nylon bushes on either side of the spacer bit so that i could slide the shifter in easier. Dont have the gearknob issue, but possibly have a different gearknob to the ones you others have... mine(black version) = http://trdparts.jp/english/image07/p_shift-3.png

Yeah I've got the round type knob, the shifter height does seem to be higher too (can see by how the boot is stretched higher)

I suspect the rattle is from the ring that sits in the bottom hole. I'm going to try making a piecce of melthoid to fit that will pack it down. Probably won't be before the weekend though. It only really starts at around 6000rpm for me.

Interesting that we're all experiencing problems - would've thought the kit would be slightly better quality than that if he's promoting it all around the world.

Sounds like a good theory, ali. I kept the (vinyl) boot off today to see if I could figure it out on the way home from work. I think part of the issue may be the flat piece of metal that goes on top of the new spacer. I've got some thin rubber at work - might try and make a wee gasket for it. Again, prob no chance until the weekend.

I'll email waffenschmiede and point him to this thread, see if he has any ideas.

Pulled mine apart again tonight to see if I could measure the gap but didn't have a feeler gauge small enough to measure it. I have tried putting a shim in on top of it prior to reassembly, so I'll see how that goes tomorrow. The rattle for me came on just befor 6k, and tailed off above 7k. As to the height, he did say it was the same as the TRD kit, so there shouldn't be any surprise there

Finally got mine in also :) and I likewise have the rattle, I get mine around 4.5 - 5k rpm but yea its there ... I actualy was driving it for 2 days without anything reinstalled just the short shifter and I felt it made less noise .. didn't hear the rattle I do now ..

But otherwise very very happy with it :) fits well and loving the shifting, alot quicker for sure :) - now to get my TRD gear Knob

Took mine for a drive last night and i have the rattle also. Happens from 4500 rpm onwards.

i'm probably going to remove mine alltogether as the noise is incredible. Not 100% sure if it is accentuated by my TRD flywheel or not.

You guys fixed yours yet? I pulled mine apart this morning and popped some insulation tape on the bottom aluminium ring so it fitted in the hole really tight. This didn't fix it :(. I also tried putting it back together with the ring not in there at all - I don't think it's actually needed. Either way, it was still rattly.

I did fix a couple of other issues though - used insulation tape to widen the shaft in a couple of places, so now the top rubber boot holds up higher, and the the outer boot (the vinyl one) butts up tight to the gearknob. However, I would envisage that if I go for a big drive on a hot day, this will heat up and the tape will slip off.

If none of you (or Waffenschmeide) have good suggestions, I'll be taking it out and going back to the long one next weekend :(.

Since I put the shim in I don't think it's as bad. It doesn't rattle now till above 6k rpm, so it's liveable with as 90% of my driving is below 4500. I might pull it out and try adding another shim at some stage and see how that goes.

Have just installed mine and am quite happy with it.... don't have the rattle that everyone else seems to be getting. Tightened the little flat piece of metal right down though so far that it bent into shape so there was no chance of anything moving.

Installed mine finally this afternoon. Got the rattle quite bad at higher rpm also. Im going to try a some grease on the shift ball like the factory shifter had & some loctite nut lock on the shaft, see if that helps.
Apart from that its quite a nice shifter, has a good feel to it.

Pulled it apart & reassembled it with lots of grease today. The rattle has dulled & the shift is really nice now. Was a bit tight before. Still want to get rid of the rattle all together. Has anyone else managed to fix theirs?

Anyone had any success yet? It's pretty annoying.

I'm noticing it more now when the engine is labouring at low revs - coming up a hill in 6th at 90kmh, there'll be a slight rattle (a lot less intense, but same general idea).

I don't suppose anyone has thought of contacting our supplier? He may be able to offer a solution. Not holding my breath, though.

No good, Carl/E910 came to get his from mine during last weekend when I was tightening the crap out of all the bolts, so much that the metal that goes over the rubber insulators has been belt by the bolts...

Success? NO

Thread tape, cable ties and grease will reduce most of the noise have not got rid of it completely yet.

Thread tape on the thread of course,
Grease at the bottom,
and a cable tie around the rubber boot to try seal between the gear box and the stick to reduce noise.

Going to try a few more things in the next week or so.
