Dammmmmmm .... just found this thread, already had the timing belt break last year and now it looks like i have a bent rod .... getting the same tapping noise but not as loud yet...

if i keep driving it whats likely to happen? (don't flame me) i'm still paying off last years bill and frankly don't want to rip it all up again, didn't cut any corners and put in all genuine parts (thanks Nick) and took it to a well respected mechanic who was too busy to give it all his attention so in the end it was 4 months off the road last year, unfortunately no love left at this stage...

soooo sick of it :(

Don't drive it until you can get it checked out. Four months is ridiculous for a mechanic.

Just have one question, did you get it dyno tuned?

Worse than that, mine is only a 5At non boosted so never bothered trying to dyno it... guessing that the valve damage from the broken timing belt last year has left lasting damage after all

It's driving fine and the tapping isn't as loud as Leidens video's yet

ya 4 months was a joke... and cost €1350 euro in labour :(

just got a second opinion from another mechanic and he says it's definitely higher up in my case.... don't know if that's any better but he said it might just need new shims as if one's too loose then it would rattle....

Can someone post up the valve clearance figures for the inlet and exhausts please... i found them on this site before but now can't seem to find that thread anymore

cheers :)

Specs for the 3SGE (Measured when cold )

Inlet:
0.17mm - 0.27mm

Exhaust:
0.32mm - 0.42mm (Auto)
0.25mm - 0.35mm (Manual)

If your measurements are outside the standard values, measure the clearances and adjust with shims to suit :)

Dump the Engine oil and check for bits of alu/metal, mine sounded like it was coming from the head when in fact it was the piston skirt connecting with the crank counter balance
