hi guys, for some reason my cars fuel consumption has been getting worse and worse every week. so far i've done around 320km with just over 1/4 tank left. and i've been only getting around 200-220km average to half a tank. always ran vortex gold or VPower or just normal vortex. any ideas guys? O2 sensor? fuel filter? bad engine oil? oil filter? cheers |

I can't see it being related to the oil Wes, it sounds like a sensor problem. Something is mis-reading a sensor & telling the computer to add fuel, oxygen would be top of the list but I suppose temperature could be saying the engine is cold when its not. |

i only get about 250 from half a tank or aruond 500 from a full tank of 50 litres (to fill up so much for a 60 litre tank) so its about 10l/100 which isnt that bad? |

Could be a number of things, fuel filter could be one, dirty fouled up spark plugs could be another. Ive noticed mine has gotten a little worse in the 5-6 months or so ive had the Tez but thats to be expected. |

Most likely O2 as that handles idle & light throttle fueling, it won't show up as a CEL the ECU just continue's to run without it, A dirty filter or poor plugs would contribute to a loss in power, which you might be making up for by adjusting your right foot, hence more fuel consumption. How many km's has the old girl done? |

Do different models differ? The manual for my Altezza RS200 says 60L, and from experience of filling an almost empty tank, that seems about right as well. |

95000km. i've done the 100000 major already at 80000. ever since then my fuel consumption was great for a couple of months but then its just been deteriorating i'm doing less 70 zones though. so yeh fuel filter, all oils and fluids spark plugs air filter clean, throttle body clean etc done at 83000km right now i'm sitting on the worst i've ever seen the car chew threw petrol 350km with i'm guessing only 17L left in the tank maybe a little more. cold weather and rain could contribute but not this much :S |

The O2 sensors we use are heated and should have a service life of about 160,000km's but its always worth checking |

Any update on this Wez? What was the problem? I think I am getting the same thing as you do, But my car has done 154xxx km PS: I fuel up with 91 this week Another PS: I have used 3/8 of a tank (as the gauge indicated) and done around 160km |

Are you both running factory exhaust's with catalytic convertors? They may have blocked up restricting exhaust gasses as they exit the motor, otherwise I'm still thinking bad O2 sensors would cause a problem, How is engine temperature? If you had a bad water temp sensor the motor would continue warm-up enrichment thinking it was still below operating temperature. |

I am running all stock exhaust and cat. One thing I found is that the car lost a bit of "go" factor in it For example, when I lift my right foot off the gas, The car slows down heaps, where as before, it takes a bit of time to slow down. Same with getting it moving, Feels like I have to use more gas to get it moving, I wouldn't light-foot it anymore to get it off the line anymore. Engine temp. should be fine. But how do I check if the warm-up enrichment is not working properly? The engine temp gauge in the dash shows the temp. level is fine. |

Warm up enrichment shouldn't have enough effect on AFR's to affect power output, at least not enough that you would notice it, its only a small amount of fuel added to counter-act the fuel sticking to stuff and not atomizing when cold. I'd be checking that cat, no doubt its gotten to the stage where its becoming such a restriction in the exhaust system its causing massive back-pressure even more so since your saying the engine is slowing down faster, the plugged cat is acting like an exhaust brake. Trucks have exhaust brakes, it has an actuator that partially closes the exhaust piping to increase backpressure and thus slow down faster, I used it alot going down hills in the Work Trucks @ Northpower, stops you having to ride the brake. Anyway, I'd be getting that catalytic convertor checked, its most likely blocked and causing your 'exhaust brake' effect you've noticed. If it is blocked replace it with a resonator or a straight pipe if you'd like a bit more exhaust note. Unless your from Aus and have strict emissions regulations

Unfortunately, I am from Aussie So no straight pipe But I will get it check out when I service my car Thanks for the help ![]() PS: about the truck brakes, is that why they sound so loud when they slow down? I thought they were engine braking lol |

On a 3/4 to full tank, would adding a bottle of injector cleaner help?? Maybe also a quick clean of the all important maf sensor?? <_< |

You can get aftermarket catalytic convertors that are higher flow, would be something to consider, Yea they are engine braking, but with the added backpressure from the exhaust valve being closed, helps the truck decelerate faster |

I did my MAF sensor about 2 months ago and added some injector cleaner on a full tank and my fuel consumption improved as well as getting rid of a flat spot I had @ 3000rpm. The car drives like a dream now and is faster then ever!
