I have just gone for my warrent and have failed on my rears and the fronts are due soon aswell.

The eagle f1s only lasted 13000kms of travelling over the harsh Wainuiomata hill so I went back to Tonys tire service and said that I never over inflated the tires and expect to get more kms out of a set of tires. The rears have gone from the dead center with little wear over the rest of the tire. tThe tires now are raised on the outside and slightly sunken in the middle.

I never inflated the tires more than 36psi(raised it when I went away in a packed car). Tonys suggested 32 psi but i felt it wasnt enough as each time I checked the tires the pressure had dropped and I didnt want to wear the outers out with the body roll.

photos to follow.

What are peoples experience with this type of thing and suggestions? there seemed to be no feathering of them either.

Tonys tire service have offered me 2free tires and trade for the front 2+alignment bal etc. so pretty happy at what they have done so far. the car is booked in next Thursday.

They suggested the firehawks TZ100 as I should get more kms out of them than a performance tire. They did give me the option for the adrenaline tires but said that they will wear just as fast as the eagles.

Has anyone used the tz100s and if so what was your impression of them?

Hi Jason

I've been running F1's for some time now certainly getting more than 13000, more like 20000 - 25000 have you been rotating them every 5000 or so.

Could be your heavy right hand foot but then again my driving is also on the heavy side.

From owner of a Firestone tyre outlet when I was getting a wheel alignment, he put them on his wifes Altezza, & reckons they they grip well ,wet & dry, reasonably quiet & look like doing a reasonable mileage(30,000+) - you probably could accept this as a YES/OK - PM me & I will provide name & number of outlet

Personally I'm running 34psi in mine with no problems. 32 is a bit on the low side for a 45 series tyre IMO.

I had the older TZ100 on my S14 Silvia & I haven't got a nice word to say about them. They're a basic family car tyre at best. They offered no grip in the wet (my silvia was non turbo :( ) I'd go with the RE001 any day. You should get anywhere between 20-40K out of them. Maybe have a look at Bridgestone Turanza ER300 if you want longer life. They faired pretty well in the wheels mag tyre test http://www.wheelsmag.com.au/wheels/site/ar...;file/TABLE.JPG
Out of interest where were your F1s made?

I think even 34 is a little low. I started with mine at 34, but after talking to a number of people took them up to 38. I got about 35000 out of F1s on the back, and am looking at about the same with the Kumhos I have on now (but I won't be buying them again) I also noticed a definite improvement in the handling with the higher pressure

Ahh that's you're problem right there.

Germany & Australia are the other two places they're made. I don't know how many times I've heard people say "don't buy Chinese made F1's" & this just reinforces it.

The right foot may have a part in it but I dont light the back wheels up or have pulled drifts everywhere(as I cant really afford to spend that much every 12 months)

The sticker on my windscreen said i was due in the tire shop 3000kms ago as i didnt get this done because the warrent was coming up and thought they would both pass and then i could rotate them.

I really think it is just travelling over the hill everyday with the sand paper like texture.

I was just surprised that the backs wore in the dead middle and not the sides.

Performance wise I cant fault them. There was no unsure corners or twitches(unless i tried) thats why I thought they would have passed this time round as there was no indication that they were giving way.

Guess its just trying to find a balance of performance and life expectancy and laying off the gas a bit... and trying to remember that they hold me to the road and are a consumable item.

I just think that the car may have been wrongly set up. This time round I will get a print out of alignment and see if there is anything sticking out.

If they're worn dead centre all the way around it's an indication of too high a pressure in the tyre, unless of course you've been exceeding the speed rating of the tyre on a regular basis ;-)

That wear pattern isn't an indication of a problem with alignment, especially since you said there's no feathering or anything. If you'd bumped them back down to 34 or even 32psi as recommended they "may" have lasted longer, but that's just my opinion...

Just a bit of bad luck, hope you do better with your next set :-)

I always ran 38psi in my 215/45 for years with no dramas (inner tread block always wore before the centre with the correct wheel alignment)

I had firehawks on my car when I bought my IS300 and they were just an average tyre really quite comfortable and not much else.

Here's something I learnt from a mate who's worked for many years in the tyre industry-

for daily road driving, no matter your tyre size/profile, ALWAYS run the manufacturer recommended PSI on your tyres- this is usually found on the driver's side door sill when you open the door.

Why?

Tyre pressures vary from car to car, the factory recommendation is based on the weight of the vehicle. Running too high of a PSI not only causes an incorrect wear pattern, but can damage your tyres (ever seen bubble bulges in the sidewalls of tyres?)

Eagle F1's are a very soft compound tyre. Probably a silly question, but have you checked your wheel alignments? Incorrect toe settings can cause much faster wear. Overinflating also causes the middle to wear faster. If you did mostly long distance driving, remember that warm rubber will wear faster, and that open roads are a much harsher surface than suburban streets :)

running low profile 20" 30 series rubber bands require more psi than the recommended psi on the placard for a 16" tyre that some IS200 came with mate?

That another problem in itself. Every tyre shop will tell you different although within a 2-4psi range. I also find some factory recommendations to be very low. EF-EL Falcon owners manual stated something silly like 28psi

Is there tyre manufactures web site with recommended pressures for specific tyre sizes & vehicle weights?

Back to the RS200 OE 17" mine states 2.3kg/cm2 on the B pillar
Quote:

2.3 kilogram-force/square centimeter = 32.713 689 669 pound/square inch
So you could safely round that up to 33psi

Your space saver should run 4.2kg/cm2 or 60psi !!
