Has Anyone Used This Company; Wheel alignment

Has anyone used Directional Tyres in East Tamaki to do a wheel alignment, and if so are they any good? I have Bridgestone T's-02 225/45ZR17 tyres on my Gita; they're really noisey and something just doesn't sound right. I googled the tyres and all I could get was a description in Japanese - is anyone familiar with these at all? Thanks!

How is the wear pattern on the treads?

Look carefully at the edges of each tread and decide which way it is being scraped sideways as it rotates. One side may be rounded and the other side sharpened. You will have to turn the front wheels to full lock and lie on the ground for the rears

If they show no sign of scrubbing then I'm afraid the noise is inherent in that tyre.

I bought a set of some brand I forget off the tyre place behind the BP station on Te Rakau near there and drove them less than a km before I ph'd them up and said I wan't using them. The new long diagonal patterns lead to noise.

If they show signs of scrubbing then you need an alignment. I don't know who to suggest for a GREAT alignment, but you can use your VIP status at Manukau Toyota in East Tamaki for an alignment discount there, they are OK. See Daniel Jarvis.

Stand and watch them do it, and don't let them have zero or any toe-out on the front. The fronts tend to toe-out wear naturally on these cars. Read the wheel alignment posts here for ideas on what people are running, and it lists the standard specs for Altezzas there too.

Gita wagons and sedans have the same specs.

I'm running-

Front total toein 1.4mm and camber minus one degree on each wheel.

Rear total toe 0.8mm and camber minus half a degree on each wheel.

Thanks for your advice. I'll give Manukau Toyota a call - I'd rather use a company that's familiar with Altezzas. It'll be interesting to see if there's any change after. I'm not sure what kind of alignment the car dealer would have done before selling the car.

I would only recommend one company to do wheel alignments in AKL which is Wairau Alignment in Glenfield!

A guy called Merv there does them, number is = 09-444 8113

They do all the race cars etc, and have always done mine (and many other member's cars) and have never had an issue with them ever.

Remember that Gita's have wider wheels in the back so make sure noone has swapped them around for some strange reason.

Oh and WELCOME :D

Thanks for the welcome Nick; I'll keep Wairau Alignment in mind too - would definitely prefer somewhere that was familiar with the Altezza.

That would be real bizarre if the wheels had been swapped round...!

It wouldn't be bizarre just someone not knowing & thinking they're doing the right thing rotating the tyres. Oh & Bridgestone have a bad rep for being noisy. Your TS02 look similar to Potenza GIII which I've had & are pretty bad especially on coarse chip. Could also be a wheel bearing if it's real noisy.

I called Wairau Alignment but Merv couldn't do an alignment in the weekends so that doesn't work for me. He recommended Anthony at the Shock Shop in Penrose, so I gave him a call. After telling him about the noise my tyres make he thinks there could be scalloping on the tyres, which he said could be caused by bearings, shocks under or over perofrming, or a bad alignment; also that it doesn't happen suddenly but over a period of 30,000 k's or so. So perhaps the tyres have been on the car for a while! Anyway, he said he'd check them out and only do an alignment if it was necessary, so getting that done Monday.

I asked if they gave Altezza Club members a discount - he'll do an alignment and wheel balance at trade which is cool with me :)

I've posted the report for the wheel alignment I had done today on my Gita in the Wheel Alignment discussion forum. I've noticed quite a difference both with the noise caused by the scalloping on the tyres and a smoother drive since the alignment. Got it done at The Shock Shop in Penrose and was really happy with the service there- Anthony was very helpful. :)
