Starting Up Strangely Low...; Engine problems

Anyone else have this problem?

On cold start (starting after maybe 12 hours of idle), my car revs realllllllly "low" in a sense, it's very weak?? And then revs like a bitch after maybe after 2 seconds, and revs high to warm up the engine, which is normally how it was before.

What's noticeable is the low revs on the start up. It's really, low. Like only half the engine is working... for a few seconds, then runs normal.

Anyone else had thsi "problem" before? Is it really a problem? Read some articles that it could be, fuel filter or sparkies...

It's fine when starting after being used for the day..

Definitely change your spark plugs, as this might solve, or help to solve the problem.

I have just changed mine, and a coil pack [ok, so technically xnickx did] We discovered they were actually the original factory sparkplugs :o God knows how my car has lasted 11 years and 158,000km on them  No wonder my car wasn't driving so great!!! But it certainly drives great again now!!! :D

hehe toyota = built to last

Ive taken out the coil packs and sparks

sparks look fine, just cleaned them a little

however there;'s oil in my spark cylinders?! and oil on my coil packs?!!

I have a gut feeling someone spilled oil while trying to fill my engine, because theres oil on the rocker cover, but it doesnt look like a seal leak. more like someone was too clumsy and had a seizure while loading in oil.

Anyhoo, nothing looks too much out of the ordinary, besides car being used to its potential :P

Have you cleaned out the throttle body & associated sensors like inlet air temp etc.
Could be a faulty idle speed control valve. I assume you have the 1GFE? There's a few other sensors on the throttle body that could be faulty also. May want to see if it chucks out any codes http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_1999_TOYO...AEPVK_2211.html, http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_1999_TOYO...404_2211.2.html

Thanks for that, yea I have half a mind to strip the throttle body apart

There's one bolt o the 1gFE that cant be undone.... strangely enough. It's a reverse bolt, i.e no head?? and just a dip in the center

do you guys know how to remove these type of bolts?

Man

whoever made the 1G-FE should be shot

Whilst trying to remove the idle control cover, which, unless you have tenticles, was almost impossible to remove, I have given up

However, I have found that one of my vacuum hoses have broken. This could possible be why i'm getting weird idle

Let me find which one it is

Your motor has boost right?

From the look of the spark plugs its running a little lean..

Hmm, was that on cold start?

mine fires up fine after use and after a couple of hours, but a day or more in the garage then I get that crappy start up

Engine hasn't shut off yet during this startup so I'm not too worried. Maybe it's just a dirty sensor some where
