Hey guys,
Im resoring some rims back to their original sexy state (cant say what they are yet :P) and am trying to polish the lip/dish.

So far i have given them a loving bath =D and dried them off then have been rubbing them with meguires mag polish. Not the lips are starting to look amazing but the are some blemishes that are being stuborn!!!

Hard to explain what they look like but imagine that look when a bit of salt wate dries on something and it leaves that faint white looking blemish. Im tossing up on if i should totaly strip em down sand em polish em and clear coat or if i should just keep working on with just polish.

Anyone done this before and have sugestions? (they are quality rims not bob jayne tmarts stuff!)

Cheers :)

Troy

You could try some cut and polish for paint. I used it on my windows to remove very stubborn water stain marks. It didn't scratch them so should be fine on metal I think.

Try a proper metal polish like AutoSol Metal Polish, that stuff works wonders just add elbow grease. Can also try a bit of scotch bright to blend out the blemish then polish over that (try this on an un seen part first as scotch bright can leave scratches in soft alloy metals)

Thanks for the replies guys :)

Got something that may change your minds, i believe there is a clear coat so possibly worth sanding these puppies back (i think the blemishes are due to the clear coat).

yeh just sand it back lightly with a thousand grit or 800 if its stubborn then just work ur way up to 2000 grit
then grab some autosol and give it a whirl then once u have got it looking nice use the stuff called california purple polish best wheel polish ever made.

Awesome thanks man, thats what ill do, now comes the trouble of finding fine sandpaper! Ill try and track down some of that polish as well :)

Seeing as i dont have a lathe i was thinking maybe jack the bask up so the wheels are off the ground then start the car and put it in D should let me get some nice smooth sanding action :)

Iused these for mine

you won't get a mirror high polish but a polish none the less

Wouldnt recommend on already sxy looking rims, more for thrashed rims that need to be restored

Not something that I would recommend, it's just asking for trouble IMO...

You can use any "cutting" compund... does the trick and cheap as! No need for sandpaper, cutting compound does the hard work for you

lol mothers metal polish is so overrated :P
autosol kicks its arse into a gutter then possum stomps it...

also purple should be in any decent auto shop around aus/nz they also have an aluminum deoxidiser as well which works a charm before u polish (gets every dot of dust etc off.)
