A bit of a ratshit night tonight, got home with the braided oil feed, a bottle of Castrol Edge 5w30 and a brand new filter,

I was installing the adaptor into the oil feed source on the sump, got it nice and tight, started the motor and there was a small leak from the adaptor so I removed it, added heaps of thread tape and did it up again, it was nice and tight then decided to give it one more tweak and crack, oil everywhere... :( broke a massive chunk of the sump off where the factory bungs near the oil filter sit, its pretty serious I think, not sure if it could be welded up rather than getting a new sump pan?

What do you guys think?

How much would you want for it? just a pain to remove it as you gotta get to those bolts in the bell housing..

The bottom halves of both the bungs near the oil filter have broken off, I'd imagine they'd have a task ahead of them trying to weld it without blocking the oil gallery

We do alot of work through Martin Wallace such as rim repairs so hopefully they can take a look at it tomorrow if they're still working

Its the bottom part of the two bungs in this picture, not the actual bit where the metal pan bolts onto:

Im not sure, maybe it had a slight hairline crack in it? I always noticed that there was a little oil residue near that area, never thought much of it as I never had to top up the oil and it wasn't visibly leaking,

Heading down to Hamilton tonight to pick up a sump of Jason (madaltezza) He's a good dude!

Hold onto the damaged one, I'll have a go at fixing it when I get back to work if you like? At least then you can sell it on if you want...

Might cost you a dozen Heineken though ;-)

Yup I'll hold onto it, was up until 4am last night bolting up the new one, had to drop the crossmember about 4 inches which meant unbolting the steering link, castor arms, front struts, and some other crap here and there, then I just used a block and tackle to lift the motor enough to clear the sump pan, didn't have to remove the gearbox just unbolted it and pryed it back enough to get to the rear two bolts in the bell housing, a big mission but at least I didn't have to do any heavy lifting or anything :P

So at the moment the sump's fully bolted up, just got to install the crossmember again and line up all the steering links and stuff, will probably need an alignment but thats all gravy because I can 'practice' doing alignments on my car at work :P

Also found out the rear suspension arm (support that runs directly to the chassis from the bottom of the hub, but not the lower suspension arm) only had the bolt in it, no nut! Which meant the rear hub on the right hand side was lose, scary!

ouchies!

Still, that's why it pays to be under a car on a regular basis!

Cool sounds like a plan, I guess its pretty handy to have a spare too, but if you want to fix it and sell it on I'll send it to ya for the price of postage :)

@Greeneyes: Haha I know! I had jacked the front up which also lifted the rear and noticed it moved quite alot when it finally left the ground, decided to give it a wiggle and nearly fainted at the amount of movement it had, took a close look and to my suprise there was just a bolt, no nut! Explains the weird shuddering sound I sometimes get from the left rear while reversing or braking

Bad luck there.

Steel threading into aluminium should really have a disposable crush washer like the sump plug to prevent it cracking off. Seen it a few times with gearboxes.

Might try some JB weld for a short term fix until you get that sump on. JB weld can easily withstand the temperatures (up to 300degC) and it sets tensile hard.
People have used it on cracked heads!
