Anyoen had this problem, most times when I start my Tezza get a sml squealing noise that goes away halfway down the road. The last 2 weeks it occasionally has been rather loud, and sometimes squeaks quietly on idle. Took it to Toyota and it made the noise thankfully, and was worse when air con was turned on, and looked like the lower pulley was wobbling, so they said it was air con pulley and they would have to get an air con expert in, prob be a bearing. Thankfully we have one who works just up the road, so just took it to him and he has taken the bearing out which he said was v dirty and could cause the noise (frustratingly it would not make the noise for him!!! and wasn't wobbling then either). He said it felt a little loose. So he's sorted that out but I am abit worried it might come back, has anyone had the same prob, and if so what was it in the end? The air con dude said it could be a big problem if it comes back because it is power steering belt too, and I really don't want that to fail on the motorway!! |

ditto same thing on startup however noise go's away after a few mins, not going to do anything about it till after the cam-belt change this month going to do all the belts at the same time. CPUFIX had an issue similar to this buy i can't remeber exactly what it was and /or how he fixed it. |

So is yours intermittent or does it happen every time on startup? Mine is intermittent which makes it harder when trying to get it sorted. Seems most times with this sort of prob it is just a belt that needs tensioning or dry belt so not a big prob, but am worried mine could be a little more serious. |

Mine had the same problem. Was worse when cold or whenever it got wet (rain). 2 fixes for the fanbelt idler pulley: 1) Replace with Genuine New pulley (with bearing pressed in) 2) Remove old bearing from pulley (shop press needed) and replace bearing itself. Myself, being tight like a nun, replaced just the bearing, which from memory is under $20.00. Let me know if you need help sourcing either of those two

every time at startup for a few min's hence thinking it may be my belts slipping a little. Will look at it post cam belt change if the problem remains. |

...worth buying a can of CRC "beltgrip" and spraying it on the belts at idle? That will remove 'slipping fan belts' from the equation. |

In my case power steer pump. I started off by reconditioning the power steer pump, kit from Nick. But noise was still there. Swapped power steer pump for one from the car dismantlers problems solved. |

Thx Nick, good to know I'm on the right path then. Air cond dude up the road replaced the bearing for $80 incl labour, car was good last night, but only time will tell will see how it goes the next 2 weeks, if noise is back will replace the pulley next then. |

Mine squeals only when it has rained or raining but goes away after a few minutes if idling/driving. Will invest in some CRC beltgip

Just for your information, if your power steering somehow died on the motorway you most probably wouldn't even notice, it would only be the next time you went to park that you'd struggle to move the steering wheel. Power steering is actually power assisted steering, it'll work perfectly fine without assistance, it'll just be incredibly heavy at low speed. |
