have got my beams running in my 86 :)

however, there seems to be an awful rythmic squeel. It was there as soon as i started the engine, goes away under throttle, comes back on decel, and is REALLY loud.

I only have an alt attched, and it still makes the noise with that belt removed. That leaves the timing belt, but its toothed?

could it be one of the tensioner bearings?

trying to upload a movie or sound but i suck at the interwebs,

Startor isn't staying engaged?

Definately check the water pump and timing belt idler pulleys for play, sounds to me like a bearing...

Can you pinpoint as to where the sound is coming from?

Leak in the quads...

No vacuum under acceleration so its not sucking air through the leak.

Lots of vacuum under deceleration so it whistles as it sucks in though a tiny gap.

If it does it at idle you can spray CRC all over the gaskets and if it stops suddenly for a moment you have found the spot.

Ouch, definately pull the head, always good to chuck a new gasket in for peace of mind anyway. Hopefully its just a bent inlet valve, don't know why the exhaust valve would have broken off unless something managed to work its way into the chamber or the rumor's about the exhaust valve heads dropping off for no reason in the Manual 3SGE's may be true!

if you need parts let me know pat ,sounds like you might have dropped something down the ports when you were putting the motor in .i always put duct tape over the inlet and exhaust ports when im changing motors
just moved my engine back 50mm closer to the fire wall so hopefully will see if that changes my weight around ,currently 54 front 46 back with me in the car

yeah glenn, thats prolly what happened.

though most likely was when i was playing with the idle bypass. :(

do you think its going to be worth going to the effort of rebuilding the head or shelve it untill i know more and save for a replacement engine....

valves are easy it depends on how much damage is done to the head and if it needs welding up and hope fully you havnt split the bore s
