Hmm Something Peculiar Is Wrong; Engine warming problem

so this morning i was on my normal daily 10 minute comute to work and noticed somethkng peculiar that i cant quite wrap my head around it.

Normaly my car warms up about 1/2 way (5mins) into my trip i just happened to look down at the temp gague and it was about 1/4 the way or a few notches below the 1/2 way mark.
It stayed there the whole length of my journey :( tried switching the car on an off to see if it was a miss-read from the the gague but same temp level.

Now if my thermostat was broken i figure ot would remain closed and not allow the water to flow thus overheating my engine..
Is it a possibility my thermostat is stuck on 1/4 open?
Last night while driving home at 10:30 the temp was fine.
So what could have changed overnight to cause this? :(
any ideas or food for thought?
Thanks guys

Thermostat stuck open?

On the way to work did you have the blower/ac on?

Was the heater cooler than it would normally be?

It actually cools the motor down abit if you have the blower to hottest.

Get a new thermostat.

Yea definately time for a new thermostat, these things get overlooked, but with age the car needs a new one. They aren't expensive to replace too.

Thermostat:
RRP - $26.00+GST
VIP - $18.20+GST

Very common in the 3SGE, happened to me and the car literally never warmed up LOL

had a talk with my mates dad and my dad and they also said its a possibility of the "sender Unit" ? any ideas on that?
today coming home from work, the car did warm up to normal temp , but it took a good 15-20 mins to do so normally its only about 5 mins to warm up.
is replacing the thermostat a hard job? there any step-by-step how to's?

In general the Temp Sensors very rarely fail.

The thermostat can get stuck open with bit of the rubber seal, so it sometime closes and sticks open sometimes.

It's quite a hard job actually, deffo ask someone to do it for you if your unsure. It's on the thermostat housing, just follow the bottom radiator hose and there is a 2 bolt housing, undo that and the thermostat is under there :)

Wouldn't be the sender unit. Looking from the parts reference it doesn't look like the easiest of jobs to change the thermo. It's on the lower pipe, will be a bitch.
