RS200Z failing emissions for UK test - orignal Lambda sensor changed as part was intermitant. Reduced emission CO from 5.83 to 0.73 (need 0.3) andHC 283ppm no change after sensor change (need 200). Bought the car last year without a Catalitic Convertor (powerflow exhaust, middle and backbox fitted). Before I buy a £500 cat does anyone know if this will actually reduce HC and CO by reasonable levels ? Resetting the ECU seems to cause alsorts of problems for people - is it wise to do this after the new sensor is fitted (there was no ECU lights on with dodgy sensor). Changing spark plugs and cleaing airflow wouldn't pull that tolerance down by what's needed would it. Any Techies with advice will be much appreciated Ch |

That depends on how worn the plugs & how dirty the MAF is. Some of the lads on tezzaworld have passed their re-tests just by cleaning the MAF & throttle body. (I assume they had cats as well though.) The rest had to replace their cats. We don't have emission testing here so probably not to many people here even know what sort of levels they're emitting. Although I did notice after cleaning the maf my rear skirt stays a lot cleaner now. |

Perhaps I need a picture of you for my wallet when I feel down ![]() Emissions aren't my baby - always had a pre 93 celica (that's why I wanted a tezz)for 13 years so Cats mean nothing , whats 100 , 200 or 400 standard or race all about ??? what a day ........... |

Hate to break it to you but the cat is the single most important object in your environmental system. So there is no other way but to install a cat unfortunatly. The cat will a: convert carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide. This wont change how much carbon is in the exhaust but it will introduce more oxygen thus making the carbon less potent. The only way to make your carbon reduce significantly is to lean out the air fuel ratio. b: (this is where it helps!!!) Oxydise unburnt hydrocarbons. Unfortunatly as a side affect your CO2 will rise as the oxydation of hydrocarbons (HxCx + O2) produces water vapor and Carbon DiOxide (H2O + CO2). Given that your Hydrocarbon emmisions arent to bad you wouldn't see a huge jump in CO2. To get past your emmisions I reccommend installing a 3way cat as large as you can and dont cheap out either. About 1,000 Km before your emmisions test change oil with 5W synthetic oil. About a week before test clean your map sensor, oil and clean your air filter if it is mesh if it isnt go out and buy one such as K&N, clean your throttle body, clean your intake manifold, clean injectors, new spark plugs with slightly lower temp rating if the ones you have are more then 30,000Km old, and most importantly fill your tank with the highest octane rating PLUS ETHANOL (very imortant helps lean afm) and add a further 1L of octane booster (just any Performance booster weather it by Wynns, Nulon whatever but make sure it isnt injector cleaner also). Then reset your ecu so it can relearn the right mixture. If this fails get a piggy back ECU and lean your AFM as lean as your willing to go... |

Or try and get your hands on a standard exhaust system to fit for the test? Not sure how difficult that'd be for you all the way over there though... |

Just saw on TezzaWorld he got it passed. Bit of steel wool shoved up the exhaust was all it took to get those emissions down  |
