My car goes in next Thursday to have its cambelt done.

Has anyone ever had any problems with theirs once it was done?

Its the 1st cambelt I have ever had to get done and the fact the car has VVTI im a bit worried something is gonna go wrong.

<_<

Cambelt change should be no problems, if you are using a professional company they should also do water pump, ider's seals etc.
You can get a kit from Nick save a few dollars.

Also, they should re-tighten them after a short period of use (as they stretch). You may find that they squeal a bit in the wet to start with until they are re-tightened.

No re-tightening needed with a cambelt as they are toothed, if you skip a teeth you will know :P

PS hope you didn't pay more then $39.38 for the Mitsuboshi cambelt :woot:

Just make sure they use the red coolant when changing the waterpump, and good idea to do the cam and crank shaft seals since the covers etc are all apart.

No major though :)

Only issue I can see using green instead of the genuine red is if you have any problems down the track like with the water pump they might deny a warranty claim because you didn't use genuine coolant. I think the main difference between the two is the red stuff is biodegradable. Pays to use the genuine stuff for peace of mind.

I'm having my belt changed as I write this. Everything is mint apart from one idler which was a little noisy. The belt looks like it could have gone til 150K but I didn't want to risk it. Not one drip of oil or water behind the timing cover so if it ain't broke don't fix it.

My husband works at Repco so I got everything for his price :) The workshop thats doing the change is also giving me discounted labour so all in all it has turned out to be a cheapish job :D

I will see if my husband can get the red coolant....:)

Well the car is stuck at the mechanics overnight. Thanks to Repco for giving me a cambelt with the wrong amount of teeth & them having to source the correct 1. We wil see how we get on tomorrow.

Should have got a genuine one. They're only about $40 for VIP.
Repco couldn't get a part right if their life depended on it :P

Aww.. poor pigltz.. :(

Repco can't even get it right for the staff!

It would take a lot to get me to use a non-genuine cambelt or oil filter, having learnt a lot about them over the last few years.

Good luck with it-

Yay got my car back today!

Didnt need to replace the seals so I will get some money back on that :)

Labour only cost me $234! Yussssssss :P

Cost me another $3.00 for the new cambelt they got from Auckland but thats no biggy. The original one only cost me about $11 :D

I would have liked to have used genuine parts but we have a 16 month old who eats us out of house and home (this kid can EAT!) so using my husbands staff discount at repco worked out well :)

Made sure I supplied them with red coolant from Toyota so I shouldnt have any problems there.

Im now sorted for another 80,000km of happy motoring for a grand price of $493 :) Its not what ya know.....Its who you know.

Hopefully 150,000 km if you got the correct belt.
