:o i have realised that my engine is developing a whine noise when its hot and cold.

The whine noise comes out around 2000 rpm when its cold
but after a while of driving the noise goes away and comes out around 4000rpm and the longer you drive it the higher the rpm revs needed in order for the whine noise to come out...

i owned two as200 altezzas before and this is def!! not normal.... cause they never occured....

any help guys? and for reference i just changed my atf oil (few days ago) and new lube as well about 4 weeks ago, with new filters (air, oil) all of the belts and the water pump....

 help appreciated! as this is driving me nuts when the engine is cold... everybody looks at you when you climb the hills in the city with a whining engine :ph43r:

o o and nick!!!! i searched around the forum and saw ur thread back in 2005 with the engine flush and oil change... was your situation similar to mine? cause u said your 'whine' only came out when u rev it ova 4000rpm?

Tough one...

How about a youtube clip of it or any sound file....

The loose belt sound usually only last a second or two, how long does the whine last?

the whine will last forever if you keep the revs up! it dosnt go away untill you let the revs down....however as stated before the whine comes in at higher rpm as the engine gets warmer....

belts......i've changed all of the belts already..... and i don think its scretchy whine sound from loose belts i think....

link to youtube of the whine sound~ its not very good but you can hear it

You could disconnect the belts and start the car up. If its gone you know it's one the auxillary units (power steer pump, aircon etc).

definitely a whining sound..
No shit, hence the thread, although your input was defiantly helpful LOL!

Josh it wouldn't happen to the the fanbelt idler/tensioner bearing that runs on the same belt as the AirCon belt?

Agreed with robman, take the belt off and see if the noise goes away :)

could it be a vaccum hose ?...
is there such a thing ?,
incorrect fitting of the air filter ?
could you maybe do a recording under the bonnet ?
I know i am plucking at straws,
At least we know it occurs both in park and in gear.

i would give it a rev with your head under the bonet and see if you can pinpoint it better. I think it sounds belt-like, so only one more belt left to check... seeing as you've just done the water pump, is it worthwhile taking the cam belt cover off to check the cambelt is sitting in the correct position?
