Hey guys I'm brand new to this club. I just read through some rules and it looks like things on here a quite strict....anyways, if i do something wrong, please let me know before i get in trouble:P I've seen this site for ages and now i've finally joined it. Feels good to be apart of something. Hopefully i will get more into it. Anyways, to my topic: Everytime i after i accelerate quite high (7krpm), when i change gears and have the clutch on, it seems to make some sucking noise (almost like a turbo but not as i don't have one). i don't know if this is normal or if there is something wrong. Hopefully its not too serious. Here are things i have which mite have effected it. I have an aftermarket exhaust straight from my engine to the muffler. This was in place before i purchased the car. After i purchased the car tho, i installed a bigger muffler as the car had the factory muffler (which i thought was quite weird as there would have been no point in modifying everything right up to the muffler as it wouldn't really make a difference... or maybe they just took out the AM muffler when they sold it...). I'm not sure if the sound came after or it may have been too soft to hear but after i changed the muffler, i remember more cleary hearing it. Has anyone else had this problem or know of it? I don't mind it but i just want to make sure nothing is wrong as i'm sure with most things, it may be easily fixed early on and may get worst as time goes. I've asked a few of my mates whos into cars but they don't seem to know. One mate said he knew someone with an interga which did the same thing and nothing bad happened. Hopefully its nothing bad but please let me know if anyone knows anything. Cheers YoyoZ |

Not just induction noise? (And don't be afraid of the rules... basically see what Lonestar does, and do the opposite and you'll be fine :P) |

Haha crack up! So your saying that you hear a suction noise when you come back on throttle after shifting, so: Clutch In -> Throttle Off -> Change Gear -> Throttle On (Noise) -> Clutch Out? Could be missing slightly, have you done the plugs at all? I recommend the following: 1. Spark Plugs 2. Fuel Filter 3. MAF Clean Then let us know how you get on |

Sorry, not up with the terms:P by throttle you mean acceleration? I think it happens when i let go of the clutch actually, Wait, i'll try it in the morning and will come back. Um, do you mean buy new spark plugs? I'm also guessing fuel filter is different from oil filter as i done those a few months ago (need it again soon tho) and MAF clean....is that a DIY job or should i keep it to the mechanics? Sorry about my ignorance...i have only JUST started getting into cars...:( |

If you have a good read through the DIY & pinned sections you'll find most of the info you'll ever need to service & maintain your vehicle. Cleaning the MAF sensor http://z4.invisionfree.com/lexusaltezzaclu...?showtopic=2050 Where abouts are you located? Maybe you could get another club member to go for a drive with you & see if it's normal or not. Also hit xnickx up about pricing on spark plugs & fuel filter. If you become a VIP you're eligible for some great discounts on parts. |

Awesome, thanks for that, i'm in Napier if anyone is near. I'm real keep if someone could come over and compare. That would be great. Also, whats the cheapest way to hit up some hp on the car? btw, just tested it, its accelerate, hold clutch, sucking sound. |

Depends on how much hp you are looking for and what you define as cheap? The cheapest per hp gains you can do is turbo, trying to get NA hp costs alot to chase but can be done. |

I was told, spark plug, spark leads, grounding system, pod filter, exhaust(done), ecu. All of these cost less than 1k but will there really be that much of a difference? are they worth upgrading? |

These cars don't always react well to pods without having some sort of aftermarket fuel adjustment. Headers and exhaust are worthwhile and might net you 5-10hp at the wheels. You should already be running good spark plugs, think the standard oem spark plugs are pretty good. Don't know what gains a grounding system will get you. The ecu and exhaust will probably be your biggest bang for buck. But I may have a partial GReddy turbo kit for sale soon if you want abit more :ph43r: *Tries to hide a plug*. |

Our cars don't have HT leads & pod filters can cause more trouble than they're worth Have a read of this thread on basic NA mods http://z4.invisionfree.com/lexusaltezzaclu...?showtopic=8560 2 of the best mods I did weren't actually mods just servicing. They were cleaning the MAF sensor & changing the gearbox oil to Redline MT-90. Like Soiled Altezza has mentioned headers, an aftermarket ECU & dyno tune will net the biggest gains on a NA engine but you can kiss goodbye to @3K if you're buying new. |

Interesting. BTW, i am interested in the Greddy Turbo...but how much? i'm not really that rich...lol...also, how much would it cost to install? HT leads? what are they? Make sure i've got it right, the spark plugs on it are already pretty good? Did you get a Mechanic to do the MAF and gearbox oil? how much it cost have how much difference it make? I head ECU would not make that much dif on an altezza as they are tuned pretty well already but would only make a big diff on turbo'd altezzas... btw, thx for the help guys |

As soon as you do mods an aftermarket ecu will make a difference. I'm not sure on how much I'll sell my turbo and stuff for yet have to see what I carry on using after my next changes and see whats left to determine a price. Theres a DIY on how to do a MAF sensor clean on here, and gearbox oil is just an oil change so can be between $50-100. http://z4.invisionfree.com/lexusaltezzaclu...?showtopic=2050 And as E910 said servicing does a world of wonders to these cars. |
