Ok so I found out I need 2x new rear tyres (no I have not been doing skids) :D

And also a wheel alignment.

2 questions for you all.

Im in Wellington does anyone recommend any tyres for a good price.

Need 225/40zr18 88w

Tonys Tyres said if I have any written quotes of prices that they will match and beat the price by $10. So even if there are any deals out of Wellington im sure they will still consider matching that price.

And the second question while im here. Im considering lowering the car slightly also. But on my budget and the need of 2 new tires I cant afford adjustys. Any recommendations/deals for just lowering springs.

Maybe if people have quotes lying around we could set up a post with different quotes for different wheel sizes which people could use in the future to get cheaper tyres.

What do you want from your tyres & how much are you willing to spend? My mate lives in Welly & got a quote from Tony's but I wasn't that impresses with the options he gave him. At Hyper they have Yoko A Drives for $239ea which is pretty reasonable. There's Federal 595 which are pretty good value for money but I've heard they can be pretty noisy. I wouldn't touch any of that cheap Chinese stuff like Triangle or Linglong. Nagkang is the best of the worst. See what your local Firestone can do you a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE001 for.

Thanks e910. Those hyper yokos sound pretty sweet. Tonys tyres said you can get nasty linglangs for $200. But your right no way would I go near them. And the others were some brand of bridgestones for $300.

Just after quality tyres at the right price. Daily driving to work and soon to come missions to the snow. Do both open road and city driving. Thats all really.

Any info on springs?

I live in Mt Maungaui, but get my tyres from Top Town in Hamilton. I'm running Dunlop Direzza 215/40/18's. Top Town (0800 422 433) did them for $235 each. Which I thought was pretty good :-)

I've used these guys before. pretty good to deal with and pretty good prices.

I got a set of Falken ZE502's for my pulsar. not a bad tyre for a good price. A shitload better than the triangles the previous owner put on, (stay well clear, they are plastic and therefore never wear out fast enough :( )

Just had a quick look at the website given 2tonetezza.

Never heard of this brand of tyre (which probably isnt the best thing)

Anyone know what these are like. Or are they just cheap and nasty too.

I have heard of them but would stick to well known brands. is that the size you are after?
geez I'm glad i've only got 17's, those prices for the wider 18's are scary :o

They're not to bad for a budget tyre. We sell the odd set here at work. Better than triangle etc but I'd say their biggest downfall would be in the wet. That price is bloody cheap though.

225/40 R18 is an expensive size. I got two 17" Bridgestone Potenza RE001 for under 400 fitted.

Yea its a big jump between 17s and 18s. Thought they were a bit budget, will keep looking.

What about suspension. Any preferences which would work well without loosing performance in handling etc.

I'd say some TEIN springs would be you best bang for buck if you wanted to lower it.
From time to time decent JDM springs & shocks pop up on TM like TRD Sportivo & Tanabe etc if you're prepared to wait

The Hankook H405's are a well priced tyre with pretty good handling overall, alot better than a Fullrun, Linglong or Triangle thats for sure. Kingstars are so so we fit a few of them up at work and havn't had any complaints. Id say the Federal would be comparable to the Kingstar in terms of performance but personally out of all of them I'd definately go with the Hankooks for the best bang for buck.

Yeah I've got H405s on the rear of mine. They're OK, but i wont be buying them again. I had to get something for a wof when cash was tight, grippy enough but nothing compared to the G3s.

I had kingstars(made by hankook too i think) on the skyline and thought for the price i paid were an OK tyre but yeah, very scary on the back of a turbo skyline in the wet, they would break loose with little-no warning.

My tyres of choice for daily driving would be Goodyear F1G3s, dunlop dz101 or Toyo T1Rs, but i imagine they'd be pretty pricey in that size :(

Stay away from champiros or whatever they are called.... soft jelly pieces of crap.

Firehawks tz100 is what I run and they are great for my use( generally pretty hard over Wainuiomata hill each day). They are made with a different harder compound on the edges (for lower vehicles) i think anyway and have lasted a lot longer than other tires I have had ie eagle f1s 8000km. T

I would get them again. Not sure on your size though as mine were standard 215/45/r17

Yeah- Toyos, Yokos or Falkens.. Well-known brands with some quality behind them, or take a punt with some of the newer Asian manufacturers.

It took Falken a decade to get it right, I was using them from when they first appeared.

(In the 1980s on my VW Kombi!! Bad tyres are real scary on something like that when you drive like I do!)

they both sound like a pretty good price to me, but then I've never been in the market for 18's :)

hyper sell them for $199 on TM though.
