Had my RS200 converted from auto to manual. I have an aftermarket kakimoto exhaust on it. The car is not back firing =[ It never back fired even with the exhaust when in auto. I was told the factory ecu cannot be tuned... Is there a way to stop the backfiring? Also the engine warning light and the 'power' light on the dash blinks on and off randomly...can that be fixed too? I'm trying to avoid changing ecu because of $$$ |

Does it still have the stock catalytic converter? or a resonator in its place? That first muffler under the passenger's seat stops backfiring. |

I'm not sure if a manual ecu would work because of the differences in compression and head design? |

soilked altezza: how much for ecu? easily replaceable and will work in the car? Leiden: I'm not sure, its not a full exhaust system, simply the L pipe from passenger seat to rear end. |

ECUs are easy to replace just pull out the old one remove the plugs put in the new one and replace the plugs, and the cost depends on where you live. Someone would have to confirm if a manual one would work on an auto conversion or not though? |

Not 100% sure either sorry. The totally different cam profiles and head design etc will have different maps on the ECU. They will plug straight in, but unsure on the compatibility sorry. Not sure if backfiring would be a result from a manual conversion though, I personally would look into anything that can cause the richer fuel mixture such as: Sparkplugs Coilpack Leaking RC Gasket Oxygen sensor TPS Throttle body (or throttle body motor) etc Throw the car at a dealer and see if they can plug it onto their diagnostic tester and see if there are any codes to do with the ignition side of things |

Does it backfire when coming off the throttle and changing gears or is it when you come back on throttle after gear selection? |

When you did the conversion did you just trick the ECU into thinking it was in Neutral or Park? Could be anything really, I know mine used to backfire with a free flowing exhaust if I popped the throttle around 2-3k revs, is it something you can't live with? |

wht do u mean trick the ECU? I didn't even do the conversion... gave it to garage. and yes i'm still alive so yeh LOL but just sound like a bit of a dickhead. I dun mind if it pops at high revs....but everyday driving at 2-3k is a bit much don't u think? |
