Hey guys I'm a noobie to your site, although I've been browsing it for a while, I need some assistance with a question ( or predicament) I have ...My Altezza was involved in an accident and it appears the ecu was damaged, the ecu part# is 89661-53160, I also have an extra one but the part# is different 89661-53080 and I was told there's also one 89661-53161

What I'd like to know is are these ecu interchangeable and if not what are the differences

..and here's a bit more detail from the PM he sent me. I don't know, maybe Nick can shed some light..

My problem is as follows: My car was involved in an accident in which the front was damaged and airbags were deployed, the damage itself was mainly cosmetic, but the ecu was damaged, the car has been repaired but now I face a dilemma.

The ecu the car had was 89661-53160.  I have been unable to find this but was assured that the other auto ecus were swappable & I was able to get another 89661-53080 which plugs in fine, but the car is starting and shutting off and is unable to drive.

All other features work, can you say if the two are interchangeable? If this is so then I'll know my issue is not with the ecu but possibly a sensor or relay. I'll appreciate any assistance I can get as I'm at my wits end and no one locally seems to know much about these cars. Thanks in advance.

The 89661-53161 is a superseded 89661-53160, so is interchangeable, but the 89661-53080 won't work, will find out exactly what the differences are for you tomorrow

According to the computers:
89661-53160
05/2001 - 12/2001 SXE10 3SGE 5AT

Superseded to:
89661-53161
12/2001 till 2005 SXE10 3SGE 5AT

89661-53080
10/1998 - 05/2001 SXE10 3SGE 5AT

The 53160 and the 53161 are interchangeable as the 53160 was updated with the 53161.
The 53080 will not work as it appears to be a totally different ECU, the SXE10 5AT went through a minor update in 2001 and they changed a few bits and pieces throughout the car, best to stick to another 53160 or a 53161 if possible

Ok guys I had my ECU tested and it appears it grounded off in the crash, a technician says the board wasn't burned so he's repairing it and I should get it back on Tuesday, hopefully that works, otherwise my immediate choices are to buy one from him for US$710.00, btw the Toyota dealership sells them for US$2160.00 with none in stock. Because of this experience I've spoken to someone who imports used cars and parts fro Japan to have them import a few so others can benefit if found in my situation

Where abouts are you based? There will be heaps of them here in NZ at wreakers etc

TParts no doubt will have one http://www.tparts.co.nz/

Trademe has one, but can't read the part number from the picture so maybe ask on there. Even if you are not in NZ getting one posted over won't be much as they are pretty small and not very heavy.

Hi
My 2003 model is using 89661-53161 and what I noticed compared to 89661-53080 equipped cars is the low end torque in my ride is a lot stronger. Not sure if anyone have similar experience.
