In Aussie- Probably worth $20k for a '99 to '01. I think Greeneyes is insured for $23k and Shannons found that quite acceptable. In NZ I'm sure you can buy them on the street for $10k. |

Yep- no import taxes/duties in NZ, no banned list of cars, no protecting some inefficient local manufacturing... Remember that when elections come around- those lobbyists for Holden and Ford cost every Australian thousands of dollars every time a car is sold. Altezzas are expensive in Aussie more because Toyota had their importation banned than the duty costs imposed. It keeps them rare here. The duty is just over 20% of the (value plus the shipping). So an extra $3000 on a $13000 car with $2000 shipping. Still similar compliance corruption though- you pay according to what some "expert" thinks the car needs, but importing is so common its a fast efficient process over there. A friend of mine who was an importer in NZ said the cost of compliance was a percentage of the value of the car. It was cheap to get a Mazda 323 through, but a lot more for a Skyline GTR or WRX. |
