Something I want to do to get a bit more freeflow and growl under throttle but I can't for the life of me find a supplier! Are there any on the market or is this going to be a custom job to get one fitted?

Also can the car take a DeCat...I know in the MR2 they actually loose mid torque unless you have an piggyback or standalone tuned ECU to compensate!

Cheers in advance!

He's in the UK so I doubt Pitstop will be able to help him :P But yes his local exhaust shop should be able to cut it out & replace it with a muffler/resonator. I hear if you replace them with a straight pipe they can become rather raspy. Do you guys need them for emission testing over there? I know in Ireland the lads have issues.

MR2 would run a MAP Sensor so they don't really adapt well to Intake, Header and Exhaust mods. A small amount of backpressure helps with with Torque down low but restricts in the upper rev range. It really depends on how you want to drive the vehicle.

TBH after doing just the decat, it stuffed with my AF Ratios when fully factory! Although it did net me the highest output at a Dyno with only a panel filter and the decat! (before turning to the evil side of forced induction)

Sounds horrible though:

OK...so there's nothing on the market par se? Yeh my local exhaust fiters can put a custom sports cat in I suppose, I kind of wanted something that I can swap back to OEM cat at MOT time...we have emissions regulations here but I'm quite friendly with the MOT guys :)

I don't mind rasp so much, just want a bit more grumble really without sacrifice in power...in fact I want more power through free flowwing gases!!

What about headers? Are they good for performance gains? and maybe a CEL200 sports cat to allow better flow and low emissions?

The gains are nowhere near as much as you would get 20years ago- the intake and exhaust systems are so much better made now. The stock exhaust manifold is better than our extractors on the rally car in the 1980s.

There are headers available, but a sports cat with a sports rear muffler would be the best you could do easily.

Look carefully at the weight of the mufflers- some sports mufflers are thin-walled and let a lot of noise into the car, especially through reverberations in the boot.

I have a HKS Zansai custom cat back exhaust (I Believe) its not too loud at all but when its warm and at full pelt it rips, just want it a bit louder but not silly loud!!

I'm going to speak to our local exhaust tuner to see what it'd cost to get a custom sports cat put in then!! :D
