Code 42 is the Speed Sensor, Code 41 is TPS

I don't have alot of faith in alot of workshops after what I've heard from a few people, I always make it a point to double check. More recently my mate has dropped his Beams 3SGE into a workshop (that has 20 years experience with Toyota's aparently) and they took all the bolts out of one of the cam gears (because it had play between the camshaft and pulley gear... LOL) and it blew apart!

The speed sensor on the Manual 3SGE is in the gearbox, on the 1GFE I think its read from the Differential or ABS Sensors, I'm not 100% sure. I know the SPD signal to the ECU comes from the Combination Meter (Dash) so if its still running the 1GFE Dash then that might be causing some confusion. The Speed Sensor code does give a CEL though. I just find it suspicious that you mentioned trouble with the Throttle and the two codes are only a digit apart...

I might just be paranoid though, if your happy with it then I can rest :P

No problems, seeing as you are running the PowerFC have you thought about doing the ETC Removal mod?

Yup, it disables Electronic Throttle Control, so thereby disables TRC at the same time and gives you better throttle response,

There's a cheap way to do it and a proper way to do it. The cheap way has been covered here on the forum somewhere, it involves clocking the APS so the mechanical take over fully operates the butterfly valve and removing/disconnecting the Throttle Control Motor. You'll need to find a replacement throttle cable pulley, I think one of the guys on the forum used one from a EP92 Starlet, I'll try find his username.

The other way to do it is to use a completely different throttle body, Jason (madaltezza) went with a 1UZ one and welded it to the stock plenum.

His username was GCMBob

i see, yeah throttle still 'hangs' a bit when i take my foot off the accel pedal, first method sounds interesting so i might look into that.

one thing i found on the weekend was pressing the TRC button does not make the indicator light come on the dash board.. - so one more question for the previous owner.
cheers
