Hmmmm don't agree with the whole idea but I do also believe in this:

..until a cop who met you at a party wants to find out why you were driving down a certain road at a certain time when you might have been off to see his GF...

All these things just give the Police more power, which they always end up using against law-abiding citizens, not the criminals who it was meant for.

Seen the videos of the cops tazering grannies and cyclists in the USA?

Oh, hangon, hasn't NZ just dropped its 10kph leeway on speeding fines down?? Gosh, I remember when they PROMISED they were only going to fine the top 15% of speedsters because it had been PROVED that they caused the accidents.

I have a mate who runs the security camera room in town he has been doing it for about 15 years. the newest cameras that they are set to install will eventually be capable of number plate recognition. While i agree that big brother watching is not a great thing. The amount of people prosecuted for fighting and willfull damage etc make it an acceptable compromise in my opinion.

I've got nothing against these cameras, but personally I'd rather see money spent on red-light cameras in central Wellington, i've seen some bloody close calls lately and people are getting worse.

As long as they respect peoples privacy, i dont have anything against these cameras operating on motorways and main streets.
Also agree with 2tonetezzza, more cameras needed at traffic lights.

Anarchist, please!

Anarchy could work if everyone was decent but there are just too many jerks, so we put the biggest of them into power :P

As for license plate reading cameras we have them here in SA, although not in a van with patrols waiting to nab you, they just send you a letter with an $800 odd fine.
