hey all,

just brought me a 98 altezza and have got a little problem.

When i put my foot down all goes ok untill about 6000RPM, when hitting early 6k's it will just cut out then fire and take off like a cut cat.

Have replaced the spark plugs with brand new irridium lasers, just done a oil and filter change and same with the air filter.

Could this be a fueling problem?

Cheers,

Andy

if it does it all the time i would pay 50bux or whatever it costs near you, to get the afr's checked on a dyno & the issue will be easier to diagnose.
mine pulls to the 8.5k rev limit!
good luck

Sounds more like the coilpacks inducing a miss fire.

Remove the coilpacks, and check for brown rings on the coilpacks for signs of a dying coilpack

yeah, maybe just buy a new set of coilpacks, see if that fixes it.

Depends how large your wallet was, new coils cost:
(for SXE10 3SGE, either 90919-02236 or 90919-02239)
RRP - $275.00+GST
VIP - $192.50+GST
Non VIP - $250.00+GST

That's EACH too!

The ST215 3SGTE coils are different sorry (90919-02227)

When i first picked up my car this was doing it realld bad, had a horrible misfire aroung 5500 - 6000 then if you kept ya foot up it it would struggle past that point & take off like a rocket, clean you MAF sensor ( mass air flow unit) as i cleaned that it now its mint!

after doing that reset ecu, take for a 'sunday drive" till its warm then see how it behaves

It's on the intake pipe just after the airbox. Mine developed a wicked flat spot at about 5k rpm and cleaning the MAF Sensor cured it. $20 for a can of CRC Maf sensor cleaner. Should last you forever. Definitely worth a go before replacing coilpacks.

3SGE Beams & ST215 3SGTE coils are different, but they are completely plug and play and 100% interchangeable.

ST215 coils are more reliable, Toyota Parts recommended them when I needed a spare
