Oil Pressure Problem; pressure dropping.

My oil pressure drops from 3/4 to halfway when you accelerate over 4000rpm.
It also takes awhile to build pressure up from idle/ start up.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks Jesse

Yep sounds relatively normal. There was a similar thread on TezzaWorld so I asked on here but didn't get any response. http://z4.invisionfree.com/lexusaltezzaclu...wtopic=9395&hl=
I'd never taken notice of the oil pressure at those revs so a few of us kept an eye on it & we all noticed it dropping off at high rpm. With yours dropping of at 4000rpm might be an issue though as ours didn't start dropping off until around 5500-6000rm. Out of interest what oil are you running & when was the last time you changed it?

Castrol Magnatec 10w-40. (would using this make a difference to using 5w-30?)
And changed it a week ago.

It takes ages before it gets up to 'normal pressure'. Like taking off from a set of light can be in 4th before its even at halfway? Pretty sure thats not normal.

I've in the past noticed a noticeable difference from 10W40 back to 5W30, sounds normal. Try a thinner oil and that should solve it

Any guesses on how damped the oil guage is?? It might display several seconds behind the actual oil pressure, so it is up to pressure faster than you would think from reading the guage.

Who's got an aftermarket one fitted??

They're an electrical gauge so should be pretty accurate but in saying that EF/EL XR6/8 Falcons had so many issues with readings Ford redesigned the senders to make it sit in one place

Would be interesting to see if anyone has an aftermarket gauge & if it reads any different to the OE one though.

i have a mechanical oil pressure guage and on idle sits at 300 kilopascals and at 8000rpm sits 0n 700 also if cold wipes off the guage which is 850kph .this guage is connected where the electric sender sits ,i use 5 w 60 super syn penrite

The standard gauge is crap, if you ground out the signal wire (highest reading possible) it takes about 6 or 7 seconds for the gauge to read high, it moves so slowly.

I'd take a guess and say that the drop in oil pressure is to do with the VVTi actuating.
