car: ae86 engine: beams 3sge running with adaptronic ive got a pretty weird problem with my motor ive just got it running and cant get it to start a twice the story goes like this: if i start the car with a fully charged battery it will start up first pop and run. now if you try to start the car again it will not start! all it does is backfire out the throttles. now if you swap the battery it will start up fine? ive tryed disconnecting the battery and hooking up it back up and wont start with that same battery! whats going on? has anyone ever heard of this? |

Is the battery new? Is it keeping its charge? Alternator not charging? Just a few points that come to mind. I had the same problem with my other car. The battery was on its way out. Once started, it had to be run for some time to charge it back up. The first start drained the battery. |

Batteries with dead cells can "charge" just don't hold it. Try swapping out with another one first and see how it goes |

its a long shot, but have you got a dedicated earth strap/wire from the engine block to the chassis? |

sounds like you still have a circut open somewhere ? ,and maybe there is a residual charge holding the circut open . Pretty sure when you do a CPU reset you turn the lights on to drain any stored current in the system? you mention changing the battery and starts fine (once) - try disconnecting the battery (both terminals) for as long as it would take to change the battery. im no expert, but maybe the more technicly minded members can build on this idea |

long shot but it could be that the ecu is not turning off? incorrect wiring or bad earth also. If you start the car, turn it off, disconnect the battery for 30 sec, connect same battery will it start? if it does then a relay or ecu wiring is most likely at fault. |

could possibly be a bad earth. easiest way for the alternater test is start the car and disconnect the battery. see if it stays running |
