Not sure how many of you out there use this site but it's bloody handy. Now the government wants to charge for the information that we already pay for with our vehicle taxes.

Sign the petition http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/nzta-free-data/ (please ignore the donation payment to the petition website)
& email the minister of transport via the link you'll find here >> http://www.carjam.co.nz/

Where do you go to access the register for free, apart from using Car JAM?

This link indicates that currently you do have to pay to have ongoing access to the data http://www.transport.govt.nz/ourwork/land/...ehicleregister/. Or is it not the same data?

For the most part I believe in free open access to govt data. Generally the public can produce more relevant and efficient applications with govt data than govt departments themselves.
