Yeah mines the same its real crap in first gear, seems to be real slow up to 3000rpm then past that fine.

Drops rpms and nearly stalls if your not clutch heavy in first, yet can dump clutch in any other gear and get going straight away, my problem is strictly isolated to first gear!

Not sure why either. Does that sound like yours?

lol do you have traction control button? Do you have the same problem with it off?

If you have not tried it, turn the traction control off, and take it for a drive! And let me know

Obviously we have the same problem, i was going to put mine into the mechanics next week to find the problem if no one can on altezza club, as its shameful when i want to beat a poser at the lights!

Hard to know if its the same as anyone else's car unless we swap drives and see...

MAF sensor clean? Stock flywheel or lightened? I assume stock diff ratios.

Have a drive of a couple at some car yard and see how they compare. If you find that all Altezzas are like yours and still want to improve it, then an aftermarket ECU and a different exhaust will do it, along with a light flywheel.

I don't think touching the intake system has any effect at low revs, and all Altezzas only really get to go above 3500rpm.

Have brand new flywheel and hd clutch, single mass same weight though. Brand new exhaust system. Stock diff.

In mine if you try dump the clutch from first at a set of lights it will nearly stall, very back and fourth untill 3000rpm.

It will drop revs as well. Have only driven other automatic altezza's so not sure if this is a problem but would assume so as you should be able to dump a clutch in any car.

So no advice? I do confess I have not cleaned the MAF sensor as cant really be bothered as am unconvinced it will fix the problem.

It's a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine, and it's tuned to give it's best performance at high RPMs. You can't expect it to have amazing performance at low RPMs too.

Fit a supercharger or a different engine, or just change your driving style to match the output of the engine.

No. Neither of us are saying that.. Our cars have a problem and are not driving right. Looking for a reason why...

If it's stalling etc, get the Throttle Position sensor checked or adjusted... These do vibrate out of adjustment over time and may be causing your issue, could also be fueling too, have you ever changed your fuel filter?

Take the car to someone with a diagnostics computer, they will adjust the TPS and check it against the computer, probably the most accurate way to check it.

Hi all
My ride is stock 6MT. I noticed the low end torque was weak. I changed 4 new ignition coil and installed a 220l/hr fuel pump....and you can definitely feel the improvement in response.

Next planning to ditch the 10kg stock wheel for some super light weight wheels.
Found one Kosei Direzza RSC weighing 6.9kg. This should improve the response further. :D

im also in a standard 3sge and have just put in a new air filter and cleaned the maf sensor.
i dont know if its just me, but it seems far more responsive, not so sluggish at takeoff.

I found the TRD lightened flywheel made a big difference.

Aftermarket ECU can do also, if it controls the valve timing as well.

If your having problems under 3000 rpm, and seems to be electronic, its faulty maf sensor, I had exact same problem as you earlier up and I put a different one on today, fixed everything right up, was truly amazed!

I got from manawatu toyota as needed it overnight for 333.50, nick would give you a way better price, but there are some on trade me for 138 http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-...n-381452738.htm

Oh and you have to reset ecu when replacing it so the computer learns off the new maf sensor instead of the faulty one, well I found that helped mine

just launch at 4000rpm and go from there? seems the simplest solution.

The altezza 3sge beams engine is tuned for peak horsepower. It has very big diameter intake runners(for a 2l engine) for high RPM.It starts making decent power from 4000rpm, thats just how it was designed. If you want more bottom end HP, you will have to fit a super charger.
