Take it out again and go over it carefully-

No broken wire? The two metal legs on the sensor are OK? Fits in correctly and seals OK?

Surely it would show an engine check light if it couldn't read the MAF at all??

It must have had a dud connection to go into limp mode, a wire not connecting properly..

Silly question but is it installed the correct way round. Are you sure the ring seal is actually sealing and has not been crushed when installing.

Car dismantlers should have one

Colin means the O-ring seal at the base of the MAF housing that seals against the inlet system.

I'm not sure if it can go in upside down, its probably made so it can't.

Oh yeah, nah it's in right as it can only go in one way, couldnt source one today, so will go into toyota and grab one tomorrow, will have to leave very early for work! Driving the tezza is so slow when you have to keep it under 3000rpm!

Don't really want to drive it but I have no option, and as all it is is a sensor I don't see how it can do any damage

oh well, it was faulty throwing out my first gear very serverly, what i dont get is when dirty i couldnt dump the clutch but when it was clean I could I just dont get how that works!

My MAF sensor is very mistereious lol! Itll be good to have a new one anyway for the turbo kit going in next monday only a week away! I can't wait!

It measures the mass of air going into the motor and the computer uses that to decide how much fuel to add.

So if it measures less than what is going in, either the temperature or the flow, then the car will run lean and have no power. The oil fumes that condense on it collect dust and insulate the actual sensor wires, so it reads incorrectly.

Few and far between, unless you broke one of the hot wires! Generally don't fail but just get dirty

Email me through work for pricing for a new one.

2nd hand ones should do the job just as well though
Contacting me for parts

Yeah they are very few and far between! Tried everywhere today, repco, toyota, appco, wreckers, everything! No one had one in stock

It has no visible damage which is the really weird thing!

I tried my sister's boyfreinds maf sensor out of his altezza a few minutes ago and car ran perfect straight away, so mine is faulty, I already went into Manawatu Toyota to get one today as I really need one right away, thanks for your offer I would have gotten a better deal but I get to pick up my new sensor at 9am tomorrow before I have to leave town for a trip, so only really had that option!

Not to be question your methods or anything, but are you sure you fully cleaned the MAF? When i got my tez it wouldnt rev over 5000rpm, even after i hosed the MAF with contact cleaner. Turns out i needed to use a cottonbud soaked in contact cleaner to rub the dirt off the element. Did that and it fixed it right up.
