This is for all the NZ members here and anyone who has traveled to Quessntown.

I'm heading over to Queenstown for the snows and wondering besides the snows, is there any great places/sites to visit.

I will be there from the 6th August till the 13th, so i will be there for like a week.

Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated.
And yeah, i will be hiring a car. Hopefully they have a fully hectikkk IS200 for hire...!

Cheers

James

Fergburger. I have yet to try this myself, but people rave about their burger.

Go to Frankton's mall for cheaper grocery than Queenstown. Head to Wanaka over the Crowns Range if you have time.

Short answer, YES. Queenstown in winter is party central.
Numerous adrenalin activities to be had in one of the most stunningly beautiful areas in NZ. Jet boats, Bungy, Skydiving etc.
if you've got a car, check out Wanaka via Cardrona (i prefer it to Q'town) and Arrowtown, there are great roads all around Q'town, just watch out for ice in Winter.

Have Fun :)

just spent the long weekend there and I hope theres more snow there than there is atm because there isn't any! I recommend the big night out if you like to party which starts in buffalo bar and goes around all the good spots in queenstown. You have to go luging up the gondala. Fergburger is also a must do and you will no why there is a 15 minute wait once you get it! :D

The view from the top of the gondola is awesome. The buffet restaurant has pretty good food too. For the luge at the gondola they make you do the slow track, before letting you on the advanced track.

Yeah the crown range road to Wanaka is awesome, there is a nice big rest area/lookout at the top of the zig zags to take photos and admire the valley bellow.

i can vouch for fergburger. its pretty epic.
central in general is pretty awesome, Ive spent most of my life up there for holidays.
wanaka/hawea are the favourites for me. way quieter than Qtown.
august will be plenty of snow, there alwas is a big dump in july.
you might see me up in wanaka if you cruise through, im on holiday at the same time as you.
turbotezza is up that way too.

Hah, I'm flying out of Queenstown for Sydney on the 5th of that month - swapping countries! My Altezza will be sitting in the airport carpark waiting to greet you ;).

Definitely go up the gondola on a clear day for some photos and a few runs on the luge. Other than that, it's just what you're into - Shotover Jet, bungy jumping etc for higher adrenalin stuff. If you want something a bit quieter, there's plenty of spots which are "pretty", and a good drive. A drive over to Wanaka via the crown range is a good idea. Might also be nice to go past Queenstown and down to Glenorchy and Paradise for a drive.

One of the best drives in the country, especially in the Tezza. Even better with ten of them.

Hey James

As everyone is saying, the crown range road is a really good drive.

I went for a drive Queens birthday Sunday, up to Wanaka and over the crown range to Queenstown.
Now that my cars running properly, it was alot of fun but damn the speed limit being 100 - that was only 3rd gear on boost!! Road was really good, except for a couple of ssllllooowwww drivers - what a waste of a perfectly good bit of road (shakes head)

If you want to meet up, its only a 50 minite drive over from Alexandra to Queenstown (without traffic, no speeding) and im pretty sure ill be round at that time of year.

I'm hoping to get some skiing in this year aswell. Have been doing a bit of work installing snow making lines at the Remarkables so would like to get up there and check it out.
Should have the new house all sorted by then :)

Cheers Corey
Location: Christchurch....and got a job driving - yay!!!

i did the canyon swing which was awesome.

world bar and winnies were my pick of the places for the nightlife.

The mini golf at the bottom of the gondola is pretty cool too (the indoor one on the right side of the road).

http://www.bookme.co.nz/bookings/queenstown/home might be handy - just stumbled across it the other week and remembered now.

John lee who owns the whole show up there is always happy to take people out for a play if not in a car on a sled or groomer. When I worked up there we always had people turning up more so after Ken block was up there doing his thing and boosting 40ft snow kickers

If you're looking to stay at hotels/lodges for 2 people, then the ones you mentioned would cover most, you can also try

www.travelbug.co.nz

Other options would be motels/holiday parks/holiday houses. A holiday house kicks ass for large group, very economical.

If you are interested in a house try holidayhouses.co.nz

For hotels I nearly always book through hotelclub.com - costs similar to Wotif etc usually, but you get a credit towards your next booking. I think I get 6% or something.
