Hallo Ok, for the most part, consider me a noob. I've been wanting to do a v8 conversion since seeing that it was possible (a la Boothy's at the track). I'm getting a 1uz with new lexus headers (yay) via an unexpected deal, but have no idea what to do next. I want to keep it as manual but think I have to somehow get my hands on a supra box (i've also had 5sp hilux box suggested to me...) thoughts? (again, after some more investigating briefly, found http://www.lextreme.com/1uzfe_info.html which explains a lot to me about the manual conversion...) I'll have to make the mounts up myself, yes?! hrmm. (wait, found this: http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/showthrea...VTi-into-IS200) says ls-400 mounts? Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks, Gin. |

I believe there is a company that sells mounts for the Altezza/IS for a 1uz swap! I'll find the link and get back to you. Not sure if you would already know, but I'll just point out the obvious re: ecu, you'd probably need a standalone which would cost $$$ Edit Here's the company http://www.thor-racing.co.uk/IS200_Engine_...s-THOR00480.asp Also check out this fella http://www.bedellracing.com/ He's done a v8 swap although I do believe he is in the states so he wouldn't have the steering column on the same side, (among other things). Where abouts are you located? |

..and don't be shy in chatting to Boothy, he's a great guy and very helpful. He made his own exhaust manifolds, although I'm not sure if that was for performance or the stock manifolds wouldn't fit. Custom radiator too. If you want it easy just run it with the auto it came with & worry about the manual conversion later. At least you have more chance of getting the project finished and on the road, rather than making it so big you get bogged down and never finish it. |

Hi, welcome to the V8 conversion club lol. I'm also converting my Tez to V8 power. One thing is, if you decide to go manual and R154 then make sure you get a remote shift one so the gearstick comes up where the standard shifter is. It's alot easier to get the right one now then try and convert it later as I have to do. If you have any other questions I'll be happy to try and help. |

Sorry to hear about the death of your project Toby. Thanks for the offer but I've got most of the parts I need, just running short of garage time.

The idea of a V8 Altezza has been around for a while now but the plan didn't really solidify until I picked up the Altezza last September. Since then it's been 90% research and saving up funds while doing little bits that don't cost much in parts, ie. stripping the car down to the bare shell (photos are in another thread somewhere) and it's only now that I'm buying up the major components that are needed to lay everything out in the correct positions. Except the engine and gearbox, they've been sitting in the shed for a while now begging for this project to come along. |
