Airbox And Throttle Body

Ok so I was checking my pannel filter and noticed a pnematic actuator that has been disconnected.

Can someone please explain what it does? My guess is it opens the airbox up to allow more air?

By the look of the throttle body there is a nozzle that is covered up and I could take a guess to say that this is where its ment to be connected but I have no experience with the beams only 3SGTE's.

There is meant to be a pipe that goes from the throttle body to a vaccum soleniod under the airbox, that is then connected to the actuator on top of the airbox (pictured)

At low rpm the actuator closes the intake that goes over the radiator, and just draws air from the the inner guard (guessing its a noise/emissions thing) leaving it disconnected will means it is open all the time so letting in more air.

hmmm I would say it has more to do with stopping the warm air being sucked in from the radiator by the look of it.

So low RPM means low speed possibly stopped so as to prevent hot air being sucked in at the lights it sucks it in from the inner guard?? Thats my take anyway.

I unhooked mine years ago & I'd say it for noise suppression as there's a distinct growl around 2K that wasn't there when the flap was closed

No, that inlet to the airbox is not behind the radiator, it sits on top sucking cold air from the front of the car.

im sure its there to restrict the intake slightly for more torque at lower rpm, and opens up at higher rpm to allow more air into the airbox. where the airbox draws air in from the front guard isnt exactly a big opening is it, actually its rather small.

thats my opinion anyway.

I bought my Altezza with an Apexi Power intake, but I still have the hose/pipe connected to the throttle, and next to the hose is nothing, so I have the hose lying around, if I disconnect the hose, how I can seal the hole in the throttle??

easiest way(but not necessarily the prettiest) is to cut the hose short and plug the hose with something, i just used a machine screw with a dab of silicone on the thread, worked a treat :)

When I change from 2nd gear to 3rd gear, or from 3 to 4 @ 6000+ rpm, there is a sound like an explosion in the exhaust, I dont know if is in the muffler or before...
does anyone know what happen?

you say ur hearing an explosion in ur exhaust, sounds like a backfire and could be from the hose ur talking about not being pluged up, ur car is probly running lean and causing the backfires. running leans not good man, i would expect car dont idle smoothly coz of it too??? plug it up man, ur car will love u for it.
