hi guys, i have a '98 tiptronic rs200 altezza

recently an issue has popped up that is baffling me.

the temperature of my car is never getting up to the normal opperating temp when driving.

the temp gauge stays on around 1/4 the temp when driving (norm is at 1/2) but when i leave the car idling, it takes a while; but it will reach normal temp.

ive noticed a loss in power and poorer fuel consumption to what i had before this problem.
so im thinking its to do with the car never reaching normal operating temp thus the cars system is running in a cold setting? (putting more fuel in the mix to heat up the engine? thus the poor fuel consumtion?)

im thinking maybe thermostat? or possibly a sensor somewhere?

any help would be much appriciated! thanks guys

Does sound like a thermo stat stuck open. Never done it before but you an take it out and check its operation by putting it in boiling water.

Will be like driving the car cold the whole time so not ideal, but shouldn't kill it. Pulling a thermostat out is not a hard job so just do it after work one day. (In saying that have never touched the thermostat on my Altezza so don't know if it's in an awkward place or not :P)

Agree. Thermostat will be the problem. Not as easy as some cars, but not as bad as I expected.Get a good 1/4 drive socket set with a 50mm extension.

Had this problem before and YES it was the thermostat. It got stuck and remained open all the time. Upon opening the thermostat... noticed it got tangled with it own rubber seal. I hope this helps.... :D
