Engine Tuning Problems; Borrow apexi power fc in chch?

We are having a big problem when tuning my altezza at RE Sinclair in Christchurch and are wondering if anyone has any sugestions for us.

The car runs but when cruising at all and not under load it cuts it self off when around 4000rpm, without turning off. While it does this you can put your foot flat and it won't have any responce at all but then it brings its self back in at around 1500rpm.

The engine check light comes in when this happens but nothing is showing at all on diagnostics as to what it could be. Does anybody have a clue as to what the problem is? We are thinking possibly the Apexi Power fc?

Would anyone in Christchurch be able to lend me their FC for a hour or so to check if mine is not working?

Thanks,
Gareth

Your Stock ECU is going into limp mode... Most likely because it hasnt been wired into the piggy back properly or your duty cycle is all over the place from incorect injectors or your lambada is falty...

Im running an Apexi Power FC which is direct plug and play. The stock ecu is handeling everything it seems but i don't want to run the car on it for to long or under to much pressure incase of detination.

Power FC is a stand alone. No factory ecu. Mine went through phases of doing that pretty sure it's just old components on there way out (is yours second hand?). Mine was tempermental with that and one drive would do it non stop. Then wouldn't happen again for weeks months or even a year. Checked everything I could while it was happening and only thing I could point it to was the ecu, if you find something else I'm all ears as thats a gremlin thats always in the back of my mind.

Mine first done it at mm09 I think it was. Down in Wellington. Still hasn't died though.

Mine was "Brand new" with 5 minutes on the dyno. I purchased it off NZefi in christchurch with an apparent 5 minutes of dyno time. They said they had a car with a problem in there FC and replaced it with this one only to find the problem lay in the car not the ecu so it was only on the dyno for 5 minutes. I agree with you as the only other thing i could point my finger to was the throttle body which i just bought reconditioned but there are absoloutly no error codes showing on the system what so ever through diagnostics. Do you suggest i just take it back to them? Was there a fix to the problem or do you think the "new" ecu is a dud.

Cheers

And what i mean by my stock ecu is handling everything is that when i plug the standard ecu back in the problem stops which is pointing a big finger at the apexi power fc.

Shit so you brought that apexi power fc off trademe, damm i was guna buy that, just as well i never, i thought you purchased a brand new apexi power fc from a guy from the states at a good price, sorry i could be wrong. i suggest you take it back to them and tell them whats happening with it and see if they could test it for you, that 5 min use could have blown a diode in the ecu if the previous owner had faulty wirring but get it cheaked out and good luck mate.

That's the worry, I used to see it all the time repairing appliances. The problem may not be the faulty component, it has been damaged by a fault somewhere else. We had lists of things we would replace at once.

Take it back and demonstrate that your stock ECU does not have the problem, so its in the Power FC.
