Saw this over on Tezzaworld, thought a few people here may be interested in it.

Know a few people in the past have mentioned it.

Yeah that's what I thought too, always the possibility of brining one in and copying to on sell. Doesn't really look like alot to it.

... you guys know you can rotate the STOCK throttle rotor to convert the fly-by-wire to direct drive, right? ;)

Can you explain what you mean a bit beter and are you running a standard ecu or aftermarket one?

The stock cable goes to a throttle rotor on the throttle body. In stock configuration the way the assembly works it only physically opens the throttle body about 1/3 of the way. As a safety measure in-case the DBW motor fails. You can overcome this by rotating the accelerator position sensor/throttle rotor assembly.

At least one of the other guys that have done similar motors in other cars say it does. It may set the CEL if using a stock blacktop ecu. And it WILL disable traction control ;) .

Here's a pic of "Roman's" carina with a single VVT-i Redtop BEAMS (greytop cover) using the altezza intake manifold and redtop ECU. The redtop does not have a DBW system IIRC.

EDIT: Found his post about it.

Hey if you take off the housing that has one of the TPS sensors and the cable pulley on it, take it off and turn it around 45 degrees anti clockwise and fix it back on with two little brackets, the throttle plate starts opening as soon as the cable is pulled.

Basically, the accelerator position sensor & throttle rotor are an assembly. Held on by 4 bolts. You remove the assembly and rotate it 45 degrees counter-clockwise. Then re-attatch it to the throttle body by making 2 brackets (more if you want). You might also have to space up the throttle cable mount to make up for the difference in position (take up slack). I zoomed into his picture to make sense of what he did and compared it to a pic of the stock throttle body I have saved.

I'm personally running ITB's & standalone.

Yeah after driving around a bit like that, I wouldnt actually reccomend it to be honest.

Having such a big throttle body gives pretty poor transient and low load throttle control, same problem with ITBs unless using similar to 4age setup.

The reason they can get away with having such a large throttle body for the Altezza, is that they have the ECU open it at a non linear rate relative to pedal travel, which is ideally what you want.

I wouldnt reccomend anyone use a large throttle body in this manner, unless you use a non linear throttle pulley, like the 1UZ setup with the two actuator thingys.

I've got a 1UZ throttle body here, going down that route is definitely a better option.

I drove Mark's car at the Altezza trackday, found the electric throttle body thing not bad at all to be honest.
