I have been getting a very noticable drop in power lately. It happens when the car (i have an RS200) is under load. Especially when going up hills, but also when accelerating. This morning I noticed that the oil pressure drops off during this 'lag' in power. Any ideas?

As long as your revs are up then your oil pressure should not drop at all as the oil pump is driven off your crank. Maybe your oil pump is on its way out or your pcv/erg systems are leaking or your oil pressure release ball valve is sticking.

Regardless I would get to the bottom of it asap and advoid high revs if possible.

Have you checked your oil quantity and quallity?

The revs are dropping off when this oil pressure drop occurs. It's like I'm dragging an anchor and can't get any speed or revs up. This loss of revs and pick-up would explain the oil pressure drop then. I am also due for an oil change. I will shoot out to the car park now and check the oil level now :-)

Cheers Tezz-Winnie :D Man do I feel like a idiot. The oil level was really low  I should have checked that first. My car has never used oil until now. I guess with the k's getting up there, things change. Thanks again Tezz-Winnie :)

My car uses a fair bit of oil too unfortunatly so once i get to 5K I check it every time I go to the fuel station to fill up :(
Lucky im building a turbo engine and reconditioning my short block so all my oil issues will disappear :)

Basically what is happening with you is your oil pickups are sucking air and thats stalling your oil pump and killing your engine speed. Kind of an unintentional fail safe. Glad it wasnt anything else but keep an ear out for spun bearings, you might be lucky and got away with it! If it was me I'd be walking to a servo put some cheap low viscosity oil like 5w or 10w or whatever they sell then going home and doing my oil change.

Went to Super Cheap. Sold out of Castrol Edge 5w30 on sale at $69.95. Thought that was expensive until I went to Repco and paid $84.95!! I have 5 litres of it sitting at home too. Anyway, it took around a litre to get back on the stick, and around another litre to get it looking healthy. Will do a full oil and filter change went I get home. Thanks again Tezz-Winnie :D

No problem ;) Get someone to leak and function test your egr system with a smoke machine. You would be supprised how much oil can vanish from an engine with a dud pcv or a split hose.
