So... I couldn't get a feeler gauge in one exhaust tappet, and when I saw it hadn't been ground to suit I had the engineer regrind it to remove 12thou... ...& now it has a tappet gap of 24thou! It must have been stuck on the edge of the valve retainer or I don't know what, but I am now looking for one of those little tappet gap adjusting shims a minimum of 3.2mm thick! If any of you who have rebuilt motors have some lying around, would you like to run a vernier over them for me please. I do know there are none in Toyota Australia Ta |

Whisker under 13.8mm. Toyota got a 3SGE MR2 one in for me but it was twice the diameter, the flick-out ones that sit on top of the valve spring 'top hat' retainer. I think they were the earlier style, and when we chased this style there were none in the country. That suggests everyone trims valve stem tops or grinds the disc. Maybe I'll hunt the MR2 forums too. |

LoL!! I knew you'd have a few, but 300!! They should all be 13.8mm diameter, and the one I'm after is 3.2mm thick. That will be in the middle of the tappet gap range, so about 3.15mm to 3.25mm would do it. |
