Hey all!

Well, firstly hello everyone! I am a new Altezza owner and just brought a nice 2001 Altezza RS200 which I'm excited about, I'll post new pics when I have finally brought new wheels (not too sure if I like the factory ones)

But anyway, just a quick question regarding the radiator fan on my Tez... I have noticed that as soon as I turn on the ignition the radiator fan turns on and seems to be working really hard, and this continues while I drive the car. Whats funny is the fact that the temperature gauge is working fine and the car doesn't appear to be overheating at all?

I have read other forums and they suggested to people with similar problems to go take it and get it adjusted? What are your views?

Another small problem is a squealing sound (that sounds like a loose belt somewhere in the motor) the squealing sound is faint but noticeable and I have found that whenever I put the clutch in to change gear, the squeal stops so it is just present whenever the car is in gear and driving - what can be causing this?

Cheers in advance!

Matt

chances are that if the fans are on constantly there was an issue wth overheating and previous owner didnt fix it. have cooling system checked (leak down or compression test) to be certain and if all tests come out good, have fans reconnected to coolant sensor and monitor

Yes, either the previous owner crossed the fan control wires to leave it permanently on, or the relay switch is faulty and feeds power to the fan permanently.

The squeal is the thrust bearing on the clutch, so either it gets replaced by taking out the gearbox, ignored until it breaks, or you make a little mod to the slave cylinder that holds the bearing off the pressure plate a couple of mm.

There's another thread about that somewhere.

the squeal is most likely to be the pilot bearing on the flywheel, i had this trouble before, i put a little grease on it and stoped it for 2 months and came back so best to just replace the bearing

Spigot bearing? Nah definetly Throwout/thrust bearing. Spigot bearing constantly makes a high pitch squeal that eventually turns into a rumble

Hey mate mine the pilot bearing its pressed into the flywheel, i defiantly know its that bearing as iv had my flywheel off and i turned it with my finger and it was rough, the way to fix this for the mean time is to screw in the adjusting bolt right up under the dash on the clutch pedal and that will sort the squealing out for you until you take the gearbox out or the engine cheers

Could be either bearing my guess would be thrust, but if you are taking the box off to change it might as well replace both as they are cheap compared to time spent getting at them!

As for the fans, pretty sure they run all the time if you have the aircon on, so something to check there.
