Hey Guys,

Has anyone noticed that their RS200 is quite slow in starting? As in, you have to have the key turned round quite a while (a couple of seconds) for the engine to start and it also sounds quite strange too.

A friend of mine has an RS200 as well with the same issue. I will take a recording and post it somewhere too.

Cheers

My AS200 is the same.
Takes maybe 2-3 seconds but only in the morning.

Yep that's pretty standard.
You can do a few things to improve this like running a 0w-30 or light 5w-30 oil, Iridium spark plugs & upgrading the battery to a larger IS200 spec one.

What E910 said really... Same for my RS200 and AS200. But it seems AS200 starts easier somewhat.. (probably just my imagination)

Turn your key to the on position and leave it until the fuel pump stops whineing then crank and see if that makes a difference. Have to do this for mine or it takes for ever to start.

Ahem... the fuel pump doesn't start pumping until you hit the "start" position with the key.

Having just taken a fuel sample out of the rail connection, I found no fuel came out at all with the key just "on", and when you cranked it suddenly it flowed. Kept flowing for a couple of seconds after the key was turned off... quite exciting when the jar filled up! :D

The whine is something to do with the sound system I think.

Definitely fuel pump I can hear before I start up (take back seat off and you can pinpoint it, may be easier to notice with a factory pump like this). Maybe it's just the pump primeing? Some how not getting to the rail? I'm not real 100% on what fuel pumps do apart from the whole pumping fuel thing.

I agree with green eyes. Pump on my car only goes after hitting the start button. And stays on for a couple of seconds after switched off

So when your key is to the full on position but not cranking your pump doesnt make a noise For a couple seconds? Mine always has, and definitely does now as you can hear the pump outside of the car.

I can hear my fuel pump in the 'on' position, probably something to do with the power-fc and the walbro in-tank fuel pump.
If it doesn't fire on the first crank it floods itself lol.

Could be, maybe there are two parts to the pump, a supply side and a pressure side, so it doesn't build up injection pressure until the motor is cranking. I hear the whine, but have never figured out what it was.

Certainly there is no flow if you undo the fuel line junction at the rail.

On a standard Altezza the fuel pump will only run when it gets a STA signal (Start signal), it runs a single feed line to the rail with an in-tank regulator, the feed line should remain pressurised when the pump shuts off so no need to prime. The 3sgte I have is exactly the same apart from it runs a 1:1 regulator on the fuel rail its self with a return to the tank.

I think the delayed starting has more to do with crank angle, or at least it needs to see the tdc signal from the crank/cam sensor before it can do fuel / ignition events. That or your battery / stator is getting tired.

However an after market ecu may do this differently?

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll try new oil in it too. However, it's got pretty new stuff in it. Will leave it for a bit and see if it makes a difference when I change it.

It mostly seems to be in the mornings and when I haven't driven it for a while.
