Hi guys/girls

Had something very unusual happen to me today, I will try and explain as best as I can and because I dont know to much about cars, whats normal and what isn't so greatly appreciate feedback.

So was on my way to work, its about a 5 minute drive. The reason why I drive is because I finish at 1am, and am not to keen walking through the streets of Hamilton at that sort of time, so i take the car. Anyway get a few hundred meters down the road and come to my first set of traffic lights. I come to a stop, and I am set on a hill, so ready for a hill start, now I like to think of myself as a very competent manual driver, and drive this road 4 times a week, but anyway I was tired and ended up stalling.

So no problems so far right?

Well the thing was I went to start but the car diddn't want to, tried 4 times but did not want to go, I had the handbrake on, put the car into neutral, but she did not want to, so put my hazards on feeling all embarressed about it when about a minute later, hey ho, she starts up.

now i have never had to worry about this before, she always starts first pop, even on cold days, so I was abit confused as to why this would suddenly happen, only 1 minute after leaving home

So can anyone help me to know if this is a one off, or might I have a problem developing with my car

I will try my best to provide anymore infomation as seen fit to help

Sorry for the wall of text

How was your fuel level? Would explain why you stalled and why it wouldn't start on your hill. Also your battery might need replacing possibly.

Could also be quite possible that you stalled because your car was still very cold and didnt quite like the hill start???

Or you flooded it,

I know my car is sometimes a bastard to start if stalled and decides not to start on the first attempt, I tend to just leave it for 10 seconds or so then try again and it starts with a big puff of smoke out the back.

Oh and Hamilton isn't really that bad, I used to walk around all hours of the night fine. Just be sure to wear protection everywhere as spreading STDs is Hamiltons major pass time.

I get the same problem from time to time. It almost seems like because the car stalled (or hasn't started first pop), the car has used the immediated fuel supply, stalled, then won't start again straight away. Maybe the fuel pump hasn't had a chance to send more gas to start? You shouldn't have to, but I find giving it a bit of pedal (accellerator) starts the car quicker after this happens :-)

Hamilton has gotten worse over the years for violence, etc. I used to feel ok walking anywhere in Hamilton. You will probably be ok 9/10 time, but not worth taking the risk. Two guys wanted to take my sunglasses in the middle of the day once. I managed to change their minds. Hamilton is famous for it's STD's apparently :-)

@Tezz-Winnie

Had about 1/4 tank, don't think it would be battery as normally have no issues starting, yes engine was cold, only got about a minute down the road, normally I have no issues with having hill starts

@Soiled Altezza

This kind of crossed my mind, is it something to be worried about?

@HOT2XS

Thanks for the tip, will try that if I ever stall again, normally I dont, but we all have that once in a while moment when were tired/hungover, and we accidently stall the car :P

So I diddn't want to go back to exactly the same place because its a big intersection and I dont want to go through all that again with a que of cars behind me.

However I jumped in the car went 5 minutes down the road (same as before) and just parked on a hill of similar gradient as before. I let the car stall, and tried to start. Again, it did not want to turn over, just left it for a minute, and started first pop.

I then did it again a second time, but this time, i put my foot on the accelerator pedal as hot2xs had surggested, started first time to.

So I am guessing it is not the battery.

Is this just a normal altezza thing or do I need to look into this further.

Cheers for all the help so far guys.

Just a note the same problem happens on flat ground aswell, so it has nothing to do with hill starts ot my driving technique. Just that after a stall, It wont start up quickly.

na bro its normal.
seems fairly standard on a lot of these.
mine does the same. possibly due to the fact of having a tad to much unburnt fuel in the system from a sudden stall.
not sure on that though, just what it feels like to me on the odd occassion it happens

I always felt it was nothing to worry about. Was very much worth the amusement value when other people stalled my car in traffic and how worried/embarressed they got.
