Does anyone know weather or not the stock crank is forged? I would imagine it would be considering the rev range of the 3SGE beams. Are they even prone to failure under 8 grand? |

Not sure if the stock one is forged or not but have yet to replace one that I know of! Same cranks as: 3SGTE: SW20 MR2 GT ST205 Celica GT4 ST215 Caldina GT4 ST246 Caldina GT4 And a whole load of other 3SGE engines. Should be ok to withhold a bit of power tho! The early TTE Rally Corollas used the OEM 3SGTE cranks to make 660ft/lbs of torque!!! |

I've heard of guys cracking them in ST 185 though but that's mainly due to oil issues |

Original ST185 GT4 cranks (13411-74903 from 09/1989 to 09/1993) were later superceeded to the Altezza and later styled 3SGTE (13411-74909) ones, can only assume Toyota also got onto the cranking a little later on ![]() |

Stock crank will be made using a forging process, but what their limit is i dont know. Have seen 3s crank fail before, but not when unmodified and or under 8krpm. I do know CelicaRA45 had some billet forged cranks made up out of 4340 at one point. May be worth asking him for the data on those if it is gaurantees that you need |

Yes I know but I cant justify 2K right now although they do look beautiful and are a lot lighter! (can you say 9.5K lol). Just wanted to know if its forged or not. I wont be spinning past 8K nor will I be shaving any weight of the crank so I should be right Is it worth cryo or shot peening? (could get it done on the cheep)Got onto the cranking or the cracking nick, Im sure my GT4 turned over at some stage when it felt like it and the head gasket was still intact lol (went through 4, second time I got the head machined and the block shaved and the bastard still popped!!) |

they are a forging and are made out of steel that tends to crack on the bigends /they cost new about 800 aussie each new and by the time you lighen shot pen and cryo or nitrate it would be about 2.5 kay my cranks are machined out of billet bar in the states and nitrated and fully balance before i receive these or you can buy a TTE 1 for 4500 plus aussie or neal bates gets cranks made 4500 plus from him as well |
