Massive story mate but basically: Replaced my clutch and dropped the gearbox out of the car in the process. Without letting me know. From that, they put a second hand one in and that was faulty as oil got onto the flywheel and then an etire new clutch had to be fitted after like 2 weeks. Now they put the original gearbox thay they droped back in and its cunching 3rd gear aka synchro. Theyre refusing to do anything more to fix the car and said ill have to take them to court if they are to fix it... They are the worst mechanic i have ever heard of and cant believe they are getting away with this but i cant afford a lawyer so ill just have to sell the car off with a massive loss due to their dishonesty and poor service. |

They know you cant afford to take them to court mate. Take them to small claims court and at least get your money back for the labour you have paid. But before you do that go to ACCC, they will give you all the advise you need to resolve this fairly. http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml...kingAComplaint/ Also you might be able to go though your insurer if you have comprehensive. Dont let them get away with this champ. They should lose their license |

You mean they changed your box and replaced it with another one? Can't imagine what benefit that would be to them.. these aren't exactly common cars. East or West chasers? |

Ah this rings a bell! A small job turned into a high headache. I'm with the above, don't let them get away with it! Not sure about Austalralia but Small Claims courts here are only $45-$65! Well worth it! Call and ask for advise as Winston noted above and I they feel you have strong ground, find the $$$ and take them for what it's cost you in the first place at the very least! |

Haha geez! Thanks a lot for the advice - For the record, this was the West Melbourne location, off dynon rd. Tezz-Winnie, your a huge help, ill have a look into it. I dont have full comp as im a p plate male driver under 21, $7,800 p/y for full comp to cover my ass! ![]() I might give a few quick calls around now and see what i can do. This small claims sounds like a decent idea! i might have to wait until monday now though. Ill keep you posted on what happens... For a clearer view on what happened: Handed car over to Chasers for new clutch to be fitted. Received car with no visual or mechanical problems. Paid the bill. Had car up on hoist 2 weeks later to find on HUGE crack and parts snapped off the bell housing that had been freshly welded up. These welds had been cracked back open due to the stresses on the gearbox from cornering etc from daily driving... Call them up: "oh yeah, sorry forgot to tell you" <- These were exact words from Glenn Trollope!!! (Hes the manager at the Head Office location too!) Was told to source a gearbox which i did. He didnt get that one, decided to source his own. (This took a couple of months "Oh sorry i went over seas") Took car in to get gearbox fitted. (At his cost) Few weeks later speedo stopped working, engine light came on, Running on limp mode, TRC OFF, Fuel sensor was inaccurate. Result of a faulty gearbox sensor. Called Chasers: "Will order a new one" (At their cost) (Roughly 3month driving with car speedo not working etc) Was told it would be okay. Took car in to get G/B Sensor fitted. Car was back out of limp mode and everything seemed okay. (2 weeks later) Clutch started slipping. Took car in for them to look at it - Said there as nothing wrong with the clutch. I told them to take it to Exedy, the manufacturer to get it under warranty. (Without car for a number of weeks - 3-4 approx) Report came back that there was oil from faulty flywheel fitment of gearbox, of the flywheel side of the clutch. Result: Chasers got another clutch. NOW for the interesting bit... What they decided to to: Place the clutch onto my original gearbox that they dropped and use the bellhousing from the one they bought and place it all back together. Received car to drive after another week or so. Gearbox was wining for the first few kms and 3rd gear crunching. I was told to drive it for another week or so and any troubles bring back and they will change the oil. Took car into Chasers for them to change oil. No whining but 3rd still crunching. This is how the car is now. I told them to fix it and theyre refusing. Saying they cant to anything more to help me and if i want to take it further i will have to take them to court. Sorry for the long story but ive tried to keep it as short as possible but its a hell of a long story haha. Ill get onto ACCC and see what i can do. Thanks a lot everyone and ill keep this updated! |

All I can make from that is they have done the right thing(forgetting the negligence) up to the point where they have damaged your 3rd gear from insufficiency lubricant when the gearbox was reinstalled, which is there fault. What you have to prove is they damaged your gear box from negligent practice. ie dropping your gearbox damaged 3rd gear or lack of lubrication damaged 3rd gear Start with the ACCC page in resolving a complaint then move onto http://www.consumeraction.org.au/ then ring legal aid and see if they will represent you being a low income earner Follow all the advice you can and if it means going to small claims court with a wad full of papers then do it. Worst case scenario you loose a day. Worst case scenario for them is they loose a day of work which is huge as a business owner. I just hope you have good documentation including logs(start making one now as accurate as possible and receipts and proof of any work that was carried out. Good luck |

Wow that sucks man, sorry to hear. Every shop has bad stories I guess! Does seem like they were somewhat helpful and willing to resolve.. although they should have sourced you a NEW gearbox in the first place. How the hell do you drop a box, especially when using a hoist? That's what Gearbox/diff crane thingys are for. Good luck getting it sorted. |
