This site is mostly for people who already know about it. But new members are welcome. If a forum member has told you about this site, go right ahead and jump into the fray. You should know what to expect. If you have just stumbled upon this site somehow, please be aware of the following:

Some forum content may be of a "mature" nature, and could include sex, drugs, and violence. It doesn't happen constantly, but neither is each and every single post always"child friendly". If any of that offends you - stay away, or at least talk to people in the cbox a bit before joining. It might help you get a better idea what happens around the site.

By registering you agree to abide by the Forum Rules

To keep the forum view a bit more streamlined and not overload it with announcements I'll be deleting a few of them and will re-post their content here.

Welcome to the new EoM, posted August 26
Okay, folks, after PM-ing with Rhea I'd say we can make it official and call this forum the new real EoM. Her and I still have to work out some details on how to handle this, but I am confident we can deal with that.

That said, here's how I say we should continue:

1 - If you need a dwelling for your character, PM me with the details (what board, title, description). The description doesn't have to be a copy of the old site, or even close to it. Take the opportunity to think about it again and to work in events that happened on the old site, if you like.

2 - Let me know if you think we need more subforums / forum sections. There's already a thread for it here. But lets keep it simple for the time being. Only boards and stuff that will see some posting in, please. I am not a big fan of boards that have a gazillion sections with 0 posts in them.

3 - If you have any other suggestions or requests, start a thread here

Advertising Rules, posted August 29:

Whatever you do, do not advertise this site widely!

Tell the people you know from the old site about it, and if you know someone who might be interested in playing here, invite them over - but only if you trust them to be okay with the more mature content found here.

Some of our posts are (or might in the the future be) in a gray area when it comes to the terms of service of Zetaboards. I believe one of the best ways to keep this site out of trouble is to fly under the radar as much as possible.

We have enough people here to keep the site alive, and if a few more "oldtimers" join up and make characters we should have a solid base for some serious roleplaying. Not advertising this new EoM might mean some former members will never find it, but I feel that is a tradeoff we should make for extra protection against possible trouble with our host.

Change to Charms and Collars, posted October 5

After the discussion about the charms and collars I decided to change the system, and I hope what I came up with is a somewhat more streamlined version that works for most cases.

Please take a look at the new system and adjust your characters accordingly.

And if there are any major troubles, please let me know by PM, or by replying to the original discussion linked to above.

New Moderators, posted October 17

It's not been an easy decisions, given that everyone who volunteered for the position had a lot going for them, but the decision has been made - in part thanks to everyone who offered an opinion or a suggestion by PM or on IM.

Please join me in welcoming Shar as a global moderator at EoM. :)

It really was a very close race and my thanks to all of you who volunteered. :)

Now... what can a global moderator do? In short, mess with almost every post made here - pinning and unpinning threads, deleting posts, moving threads and some more things like that. Assigning members to different member groups is also something a moderator can do. What a moderator can't do is create new forum sections (houses, manors, mansions, for example), so for that you will still have to go through the admin.

In addition to the new global moderator Draiton will also take responsibility as "character moderator", to help with any character approval necessary. I think he did a fantastic job at the old site, helping people improve their characters and settling in, and I am happy that talent will not go to waste here. :)

Changes to Boards and Sub-Boards, posted December 31, 2010:

I plan to make a few small changes to the forum. Not today or tomorrow, but perhaps within the next one or two weeks, unless someone can provide a good reason not to. I consider most of it just a bit of "cleaning out the cobwebs" and "tightening" the forum, but - as always - comments and suggestions are welcome:

  • I intend to delete the Games sub-board from the General Discussion board. It's a leftover from the old site and hasn't seen any use in the four months this site has existed now.
  • Same for the "Who Owns Whom" sub-board under Looking For Master Or Slave. It hardly gets updated, and I think we all know who owns whom.
  • Under "Out Of Town" is a board called The Suburbs. I think the one thread there could be moved to the "The Streets" part of the City board, and The Suburbs can be deleted without any loss.
  • I also think "Looking for plot or players" and "Looking for master of slave" can be merged, or made sub-boards of one "Looking for..." board. In the end finding a master or slave strikes me as a part of looking for a character plot in most cases, after all.
(As no one objected, those changes have been made on January 9, 2011.)

New Board For Writers add January 9, 2011:

Here is where you can ask for feedback, share tips, hints, resources, and whatnot with fellow writers.

But there are a few rules: Respect the wishes of others. If someone asks for general feedback, don't nitpick. If someone asks for a post to be mercilessly dissected, do so and don't stop at general comments. Please also never forget that we are all only human. We all make typos, or forget a punctuation mark here and there.

That said - fire away. Post links to dictionaries, thesauruses, or whatever resource you think might be helpful to a writer. Ask for comments. Whatever. As long as it is about writing - and becoming a better writer - here is the place to post it. :)

New cbox (as of February 25, 2011)

I know it looks and feels a lot like the old cbox, but it has a few improvements. For one, it should auto-refresh with every new message. And second, the full-screen cbox is no longer titled "slaveandmaster", but rather a more neutral, work-safe "EoM_Box" (not very creative, but hey, sue me).

New charm added to the list (posted February 27, 2011)

Added a new charm to the list of what can be put on a pink collar. As not too many people offered an opinion on it I decided to just go ahead and give it a try, to see if it will see some use or not:

Barbed Wire - Trained to play the dominant part in a sexual encounter

Having this charm does not mean a character is a brutal control freak who enjoys torturing someone. All it has to mean is that your character can play the part convincingly - then again, a character with this charm could be a brutal, vicious control freak. ;)

P.S.: By using this charm you waive all rights to hold the creator of said charm responsible for any possible harm to person or property (intellectual, physical or metaphysical).

The "Virtual World" Board
From the board description:

Here's your place for interactions that happen on social network pages, in emails or online chats, or even through old-fashioned letters. In this place anyone can interact with everyone - be they master, slave, or commoner - as long as they have access to a computer or can get their hands on a few stamps.

This new board was created as a result of the "Slavebook" discussion. If you want or need any older posts/threads to be moved there, please PM me (preferably with a link to said posts/threads).

New Moderator (as of May 28, 2011)

Modrid Brennan is now our global moderator. If you need any post deleted, moved, pinned, or un-pinned, she can do it for you. Moderator duties also include approving characters and assigning them to the right member group. (Again, creating new board sections for houses or manor and the like are still something only the admin can do.)

New Forum Rules as of June 5th
I don't think many of those rule changes will affect what's been going on, and they will not be applied retroactively, but I would like to straighten out a few things, spell out a few things more clearly.

The changes I consider most important have been highlighted below.

Quote:

Rule 1 - Mature content: Mature topics (sex, drugs, violence) can and will be dealt with here. But whatever you do, try to do it with some style. There are, usually, better ways to describe things than resorting to the words "penis" or "pussy".
Add a "mature" warning to a topic title or topic description if you want to err on the side of caution (also see #5 below). It's not a must, but not everyone reads new posts in complete privacy, but sometimes at work or in other settings where non-members can take a peek.
If you think a post really goes over the top and is offensive in a major way, please PM the poster - and the admin - about it. No personal attacks, no stirring up a major fuss, and no reporting to Zetaboards staff. Problems about mature content can, and will, be settled "in house".

Rule 2 - Posting Length and Frequency: Post as much or as little as necessary. There is no minimum word count or post length enforced here; short posts are fine but give your fellow posters something to work with. Try to post in-character at least two or three times a week. If you know in advance you can't make it, let us know. Accounts that see no activity - and no "away message" - in a month will get a warning after four weeks, then a grace period of two weeks before they will be deleted.

Rule 3 - Writing: Write in third person and past tense when posting in-character, please. If you really insist on writing in first person, make sure your writing partner(s) is/are okay with it.
The language of this forum is English. L33t spe4k isn't English. We all make a few mistakes in spelling and punctuation, but try to make an effort, please. Punctuation and paragraph breaks are not the enemy. Use quotation marks when your character speaks.

Rule 4 - Accounts and registration: Play as many characters as you like - provided they all see some activity (see #2 above). When you register, do it with your character's name. (Leaving out a middle name or just using a first name on registration is fine.) One character per account should be the norm, but you are allowed to play more than one character on the same account, as long as all those characters belong to the same category (masters, hunters, slaves, commoners, or temp slaves). Please register with an email account you check from time to time, say once a week at least. The email you register with is what staff will use to warn you about pending account deletion or alert you to major changes of the forum, so don't make it a one-shot throwaway that you will never ever pay attention to.

Rule 5 - Threads: Unless you specify otherwise, threads you create will be considered open to replies from everyone. Once a thread is finished you are welcome to mark it as 'closed'. Add important things about your thread (e.g. a mature content warning or a NSFW) to the topic title, not the topic description. The topic description will not show on the list of active threads or in the portal, so it is far more suited for side notes than important announcements about your thread.

Rule 6 - Karma: Use the karma system to tell people something about their writing and posts. The karma system is there to award people for doing a good job writing and roleplaying -- by their standards. A bad writer managing a decent post deserves karma just as much as a good writer managing an outstanding post. Lowering someone's karma should be reserved for the most extraordinary circumstances, as karma can serve as an encouragement, and let's face it - everyone needs a little encouragement from time to time. So give karma freely when it is deserved, but please not for superfluous reasons. The latter would only lessen the value of the whole thing.

Rule 7 - Advertising: Do not advertise this site anywhere for now. If you want to tell someone about LA and invite them here, do it in private, and make certain it is someone who won't mind the mature topics we deal with here. Some of what is posted here might be in a gray zone when it comes to the hosting company of this forum - and some may go well beyond what they will tolerate - so lets keep things quiet, least we get shut down.

Rule 8 - Forum Conduct: Treat people the way you want to be treated. If you don't want to be treated like an ass, don't treat other people that way either - and if you want to be treated like an ass, keep it to yourself and don't drag anyone else into it. This includes godmoding and railroading other characters, which are both a big NO.
We know not everyone gets along with everyone else all the time. Sometimes trying your best isn't enough when someone seriously rubs you the wrong way. Take those problems to PM or IM and solve them. Don't fight it out here on the site.
We also realize that sometimes people just have a very bad day that puts them in a foul mood. Don't take that out on other people here. If you want to rave and rant and vent, you are free to post something in the General Discussion board, but then leave it at that.

Rule 9 - The cbox: All forum rules apply to the cbox. That very much includes rules #1 and #8 above. Feel free to goof around in the cbox IC as much as you like, but stop from time to time to ask yourself "what would I think if I stumbled upon this conversation?". If your answer is "what the frell is going on here?", you might want to take it down a notch.
The cbox is where people can show up who haven't even registered on the site yet, so making it friendly and welcoming to new members (if and when one comes along) - and old members - should be taken into account.

Rule 10 - Avatars and Signatures: Avatars can be 150x150 px, but should take up no more than 25KB. Use whatever you like for your avatar. Photos, drawings, anime characters - all are welcome as long as your avatar shows your character, i.e. no abstract images or symbols.
Signature images/banners are welcome, but not necessary. Signatures should be 600x400px at the very most. If you need help resizing an existing image to fit the limits, ask for help in the General Discussion board or PM the admin.
One thing you might want to add to your signature - even if you don't make any other use of it - is a link to your character profile, but that's not a must.

If you want/need some clarification on some aspect or another, please post in the Q&A board. It's what it's there for. ;)

The Halloween Party (announced June 12th)
As there have been no new posts in the Halloween Party for quite a while I will move it from the main board page and make it a sub-board in "Streets and Suburbs". I think there is no good reason any more to keep it on the forum front page, and posting will still be possible, should anyone wish to revisit those old threads.

These rules are now in effect. To give everyone a bit more time I will start counting the four weeks inactivity period mentioned in rule #2 on June 15, then email out warnings about possible deletions mid-July, so the first "deletion day" will be August 1st. Lets make that July 30 and August 15 instead, as I got distracted from sending out those emails. Please make certain that the email you registered with here is one you check now and again. If not, don't complain that you never received a warning about a possible account deletion.

I don't think many of those rule changes will affect what's been going on, and they will not be applied retroactively, but I would like to straighten out a few things, spell out a few things more clearly.

We have a new default theme here, called "Midnight Neon".

Inspiration and driving force behind this theme: Modrid.
Her idea was based on a photo of a city at night, the city lights reflecting on water in the foreground.

Coding of this theme: Dinah.
Talking me into making a new theme took some effort, and I just couldn't get something to work that completely matched what Modrid had in mind, so we just went with the neon thing and the city backdrop for the banner.

The result, after some try and error: Midnight Neon
We managed to arrive at something we both like and can agree on, and the basic dark/neon idea survived reasonably intact.

We like it, and we hope you will like it too.

As has become our habit here there is also a "no logo" version of Neon available for those who don't want a big fat "Libertine Age" on screen while visiting the site at work or in a public place.

As Neon is now our default theme, the cbox colours will soon (i.e. within the next 36 hours) be changed to match it. We realize this might not go so well with the original theme of the site, but that is something that can not be helped, as the cbox works independently from the site and can only have but one single colour scheme.

And if you now want to ask why we didn't just make a new theme, but also made it the default for this site... stay tuned and watch this space.

Hey guys!
Okay. Wooo~ What a whirl wind of a week. Let's all just take a deep breath and chill.
You chill? I'm chill.
Even this board's getting chill.
Why? Because I'm making a few subtle changes. Some of you have already noticed a new cbox at the bottom of the page. I thought I could be sneaky...

The bottom cbox I'm hoping will become the IC cbox, where you can pop in and out and have IC discussions and things there can transfer over to canon if you want. Another change to cbox I'm trying to make is to make the main cbox, the one on the left side of the screen, scroll with the page.

Nobody panic. I'll be playing around with a new theme too over the next few days, but we'll be sticking with the main Neon theme for now. I just like options :)

Let me know what changes you'd like to see, and we can try to work this all out. No promises that they'll all work out, but suggestions are always nice to have.

About the IN CHAR CBOX:

*

* Approved Characters Only
* You can post an avatar beside your name. The 150x150 image scale for avatars works nicely to be auto resized. Just post the img url in the url field.
* Unfortunately, the IC cbox does not auto refresh.
* Also unfortunately, there is a character limit of 200 characters. I have to pay for the cbox to auto refresh/have more characters, and since we're demoing the new cbox, we'll burn that bridge when we come to it, okay?

Please bear with me as I learn this stuff... I'm a little new to coding, and even Zeta is something I'm unfamiliar with.

UPDATE: IC Cbox was a bust. Has been deleted.
