Aside from changing the major forum rules I am also thinking about perhaps changing the rules / limits concerning avatars and signatures. I am pretty much used to the 100x100 avatars from other sites I played on before LA, but I think the site would work just as well with 150x150 avatars. My thinking is that a larger avatar would allow some people to better show their character without the need to add a signature image, as not everyone is all that much into sigs. On the other hand I don't want there to be more graphics than writing on a regular basis, so - together with the larger avatar size - I might also rule on smaller signature sizes, say 600x400 or 500x400, instead of the current limit of 600x500.
For now it's all just something I am contemplating as a possibility, and some comments from you forum users would be more than welcome.

I don't know about avatar sizes, but is 150 the size of the text box below the avatar? (Posts, Group, Joined,Karma) Because... I like things to be aligned.
As for the signature, 600x400 is more aesthetically pleasing. At least in my opinion. It isn't as well... large and blocky. It also approaches the golden ratio... which is apparently the best looking rectangle.

I don't like limiting the sig size. I don't even know if my sig fits the new requirements (it might, but whatever)
It's not like everyone *has* to make their sigs that large. It's just the limit on how large it can be.

Dev, if you don't even know if your sig fits the existing limits you might wanna pay a little closer attention to the forum rules.
As for avatar fitting text box, I don't think it would make much of a difference, except for size
Left is the 150x150 av compared to the "stat box", right the current 100x100 we now have.
As for sig size limits, that's there for two reasons: One, to help prevent stretching th screen, two, to make certain the images don't overshadow what's written. So I see it as either limiting signature size, or introducing a minimum word count, and I'd rather have the former than the latter.

I was hoping the borders would line up, but Alas, I can see it is not to be so.

I checked after posting but didn't feel like editing. I'm within limits.

@TG: I don't think the avatars are exactly centered with the stat block as it is, and even if they are, it would probably look non-aligned, because of the bold face and negative space in the middle and right of the stat box throwing off the eye.
@Cursico: Hurray for sarcasm.
It's not like I would force people to resize anything. Anyone who wants to keep their current avatar can keep using it. The 150x150 is an upper limit, not a requirement. And most sigs should be within the new limits, even the ones that look pretty large as is.
Edit: Given that, the main question is perhaps not so much if it would be a good idea to give people more options, but rather if it would be a good idea if it lead to widely differing avatar sizes being in use around the site.

Ahh, when it comes to the Avatar size, I think uniformity might be best. (speaking of which I should probably get an Avatar and conform)

Honestly I'm shocked this conversation has lasted this long.
Up the av size. Cool. Bugs me that some of Mod's av pics are hard to see because she's freakishly pale.
Regardless. I don't really see how this is such a big deal. Make it bigger, or don't. /shrugs

Well, I mostly asked about it because of the stricter limits on the signatures that might go hand in hand with it.
I'll probably phase the new size in when I edit the forum rules this weekend.

Sig size, I think, should be 600 x 400 instead of 500 x 400. The latter is too close to a square.

Hmm. Pretty good point. Not that it will stop anyone from making square sigs, but still a good point. My main concern is that large sigs will overshadow what's written, but as long as the height of a sig is kept within certain limits I don't think the width will be that much of a problem, as long as it doesn't stretch the forum page, and 600 should be okay in that regard.
