OK, everyone, stop. The forum rules tell you to "keep things clean" as well as respect others, so please do. I really think this topic could have some great and interesting discussion value, so I'll let it remain open. However, I'm trashing the last half page or so of posts to avoid any more bickering, so please drop it or else I will close this thread. On topic...
To have fun? =P In all seriousness, I get what you're saying. There are some potential benefits to certain games, but when you get down to it video games are just entertainment, and therefore should not come before more constructive and benefiting activities.
I agree that games do not have to be original to be fun (games like Super Mario Galaxy 2 are proof enough of that). However, recycling the same gameplay mechanics, stories, etc. ad nauseum does not a good game make. For example, the Zelda series -despite being an otherwise fantastic and quality franchise- is arguably starting to show signs of age. Many people feel the more recent Zelda titles were underwhelming due to the basic formula being... well, cut-and-pasted from every other Zelda title out there. It's the 'same game,' just with a new gloss of paint. Another example would be the Call of Duty series. I will admit, I actually still enjoy many of the more recent releases as a guilty pleasure. However, I realise the games are sickeningly same-y and extremely non-adventuresome compared previous installments in the series. They are old. They are boring. And worst of all, other companies are mimicking CoD's style. Edited by MariovSonic, 29 Apr 2011, 12:11 AM.

HAHA, look at this kid trying to provoke me. For the most part this thread is pretty old and my state of mind has certainly changed since then (I know my gaming tastes are finicky, look at how oftenly I play TF2. One month im addicted to it the next I play like 5 hours.) so all your doing really is is necroing a dead thread. Good job dumbass. |

Erm... I don't think phail meant to say or imply he had a problem with anyone disagreeing with him. There's really no need for such a contentious reply. xP On that note, phailosophy, there was no need to reply so harshly. But you already know that. Thank you, NiGHT, for trying to keep tensions down. I think I'm just going to lock this thread now, as phail's views have changed and this is the second time we've had trouble in it. =locked= |
