Taken from IGN:
on 15 April
IGN said
According to multiple reports today, Nintendo will reveal a new console at E3 this coming June.

Game Informer first reported the details, saying the console is capable of running games at "HD resolutions." Our sources have said the the console is significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and that Nintendo's intent is to recapture the hardcore market. Another source said it is capable of 1080p resolutions.

Nintendo is reportedly showing the console to publishers to garner interest for a late 2012 launch.

Additional sources tell IGN that Nintendo will release a pre-announcement this month with a full reveal expected at E3 and that the console will be backwards compatible with current Wii software.

A report from CVG states the new Nintendo console will use an all-new controller - not an updated Wii controller - with sources saying it will have a built-in screen. Additional sources informed IGN the screen has touch capability.

So what do you think? The Wii's in dire need of an update (and has been for some time), so I suppose this was inevitable. Kinect and Move were both barely released, and each add-on significantly extended their respective console's lifespan. Not only do 360 and PS3 games look prettier, but they now have the Wii's gimmick... and do it better than the Wii. The only thing keeping the Wii afloat now is its family-friendly image, its cheap price, and, of course, its A-list library of mostly first-party games.

According to many media outlets, the controller will feature a 6-inch screen that you can view games on, almost like the Dreamcast's VMU, only more advanced to the point it serves as a miniature tv. I suppose Nintendo's stepping up their game in order to fend off the growing iPhone/iPod market. But if the controller really does serve as a portable console, I can't help but wonder... why was the 3DS made?

Skepticism aside, I do look forward to seeing what Nintendo has to offer, and how Microsoft and Sony will respond to it. If there's one thing Nintendo likes to do, it's throw its audience a curve ball, so any gimmick this upcoming console has is sure to be interesting! Besides, HD Super Smash Bros=Insta win!

HOLYSHITYES.
But... I just barley convinced my parents to buy the Wii, so how am I going to come up with the money to pay for this, my laptop, and a 3DS?
Oh well, who cares. I'll manage.

Meh... Too bad it's being launched in late 2012. We will probably all be dead by then. XD

Just did a little research on the Wii HD and here is what I found:

Quote:

Leading games publishers have already been briefed on the new console, we understand, and launch titles from third-party developers are in the works right now.

What's most exciting about the Wii successor however is its all-new controller, which industry sources have indicated is not simply an upgraded Wii Remote, and will even feature a built-in HD screen.

Our sources did not specify whether or not the controller displays will feature any other functionality, such as that of the DS's touch screen, but it's easy to imagine the sort of innovation an extra screen could bring to Wii 2 games.

"Nintendo's plans sound unreal," one source said. "Publishers are already planning launch titles and it's all very exciting.

"The hardware is even more powerful than current HD consoles and backwards compatible with Wii. The controller will be all-new and has a HD screen on it."

We're told Nintendo plans to launch the Wii successor in late 2012, which lines up with earlier reports from other games media.

Asked to comment on today's reports earlier, a Nintendo of America spokesperson issued a straight "no comment".

Personally I think this is a great idea! Downloading games on the controller to play around anywhere would be awesome and you could charge your controller and have 5 hours of battery life!

What do you guys think? Post your opinions here

We already had a topic for this, Turbo, so I'll merge 'em together...

Heehee, "No comment," they say? I suppose that confirms the rumours are true! Start saving money, everyone. XD

Downloading titles onto the controller is indeed an interesting thought, and further proves the idea Nintendo's trying to keep up with iPods and stuff. But, again, I can't help but wonder about the purpose of the 3DS... why create two portable game devices to compete with each other?

Ha, true I suppose. But I still think it's ridiculous I can pick up an HD next-gen home console for less than a hand held console.

But I digress, among the various Project Cafe rumours has surfaced this video that may or may not have leaked the console's appearance:

Nintendo doesn't seem too fussed about the video, so there's still a strong possibility it's a fake. But it does seem like an interesting/plausible controller layout.

Also, it looks like a GameCube controller. I love the GameCube controller.
